I found this in the 2/2004 issue of Power Pages put out by the editors of Import Tuner.  It's a really good read about the claims that manufactures make about performance gains their products will give.  I scanned these from the magazine so I apologize if the quality isn't the best.  Also, this didn't really fit in one single forum so I put it here.  If someone can suggest a better forum for it, let me know and I'll move it.

Thanks Eric. That was a good article. I tend to take pretty much anything with a grain or two of salt. When I was in school a couple of hundred years ago, I had to take 11 hrs. of statistics. I actually found it to be pretty interesting. I remember being amazed and fascinated about how many ways results could be manipulated and interpreted.

Please Please Please tell me that you knew about this before you read this article?

I mean the article is good, don't get me wrong.. but its a day late and a dollar short. Ever knowledgeable person should already know that its all advertisement.. Nothing can dramatically improve hp unless you boost...

******** These are my fav. people....

Guy with a focus.. stock its 130hp..

Puts on an intake (15hp), exhaust (20Hp) and short shifter(5hp) **((this is all what the companies told him))**

Ask him "How much hp you got?"
guy- "About 170"

HAHAHAHHAHAHAHHAAHH

It's no so much a "hey, look at this.  These guys are saying that manufactorers are lying to us."  It's more a tool to understand WHY you can't trust 100% of what they say to be correct all the time.  If you actually read the article you would understand that.
