After losing Project FocusFast in November of 2003 because of a loan deal gone awry, I always pined for another Focus. I longed for the humble purr of the Zetec. Wished for the control in every curve. I needed the rush of destroying another Civic, dominating another Camaro, devastating any competition who dared try me.
April, 2005, my day came. I saw her in a small black-and-white ad in Auto Trader. Her facia was destroyed by another car. Her interior rittled with small shards of windshield from when the airbag cover smacked it while the airbag deployed. Her shell was battered... but her potential still there.
I went to see her a week or so later. She looked a lot better in the pictures. But as I looked around the car, I felt more than just sheet metal, plastic and rubber. When I sat in the drivers seat, I felt more than just cloth and leather. I felt a connection. Beneath her tattered skin, there is a soul begging for me to make her free again. Begging me for the open road. Begging me for the chance to decimate some competiton... just as I beg of her to do once I rebuild her.
It's going to take lots of work, time and money, but one day she will be on the road again. In the end, it will be worth it- to know that with my own two hands I saved something from certain doom. And I, myself, will have more than just a car.

While looking for a cylinder head for my newly purchased Toyota trucks I came across a package deal that involved a cylinder head many, many parts and an unregistered plow/yard truck.
Calling around trying to find out how to get all the parts and truck from the seller's house to mine, about 60 miles apart, I decided to rent a truck and tow dolly. I got out of work early at 3pm on a cold and rainy Monday afternoon. I than picked up a friend who works nights 11pm to 7am and finally got on the road and headed to the sellers house by 3:30.
We picked up the rental at 5pm about 10 miles from the sellers house to save a few bucks. I get in the 1999 F350 14' Box truck with tow dolly attached and arrive at sellers house about 5:30. The next 2.5 hours are spent loading all the extra parts and the plow truck. We loaded the front tires onto the tow dolly and the seller kept the gas can the truck was running off of. The fuel lines of the plow truck were rotted and this was his quick fix.
8pm we head back to my garage driving 50-55pmh. My buddy was following me in my car and acting as my eyes behind me because all I could see was the tires of the tow dolly due to the 14' box. we get to about 15 miles from the garage and the rear left tire pops off the plow truck. While the tire was wobbling the Nextell 2 way feature was not working hence I could not stop in time and the tire completely fell off. Nextell is notorious for not working the instant I need it. Luckily it was on an exit ramp and the tire rolled into the median between the exit and entrance ramp. The temperature was starting to drop into the 40's even tho its May and the rain and wind were starting to pick up as well. I collected the tire but all 6 lug nuts were lost. Looking into my tool kit I could not find a socket big enough to fit any lugs on the truck.
Luckily another buddy of mine only lived about a mile or two down the road. It was now about 10:30PM and we used the nextell to call him. He arrived with 4-way lug wrench, jack and lugs in hand. When checking the rim and wheel studs we quickly found out that the rim was junk due to holes being enlarged and the studs were mostly stripped. I had gotten a rim with the truck so I unburied it and fit in onto the studs. 4 of the 6 lugs tightened enough to limp the truck to my buddy's house. We drove the mile or two at 5-10mph stopping 1/2 way to check and re-tighten the 4 loosening lugs. got to his place and re-tightened the lugs again. we were able to unload and reload the truck with the rear tires off the ground this time.
After all loaded, again, and all lugs on all tires checked for tightness we once again took off for the garage at about 11:30. We did about 30pmh the rest of the way because a front caliper on the plow truck was slightly seized. Finally, we made it to the garage without any other problems. We maneuvered the truck into an out of the way place and off loaded it. I than parked the rental truck and we took off in my car to head home. I got my buddy home a little around 1am and than got myself home showered and in bed by a little after 1:30am.
For some reason I always have loads of fun like this when towing things.
The following day I got up at 7:30 headed to the garage and unloaded the rental truck by myself. My buddy was sleeping by then because he had been up for about 16 hours after being 2.5 hours late for work. I got the truck back before my 1 day was up and ended up having to pay and extra $0.40 because I went 1 mile over my allotted mileage.
Talking to my buddy after, his boss clocked him in at 11pm so this fiasco was not a total loss. Some good things came out of it.
