As a few of you know, I was in a pretty bad snomobiling accident on Sunday afternoon. I'm thankfu for the way things happen bc it could have been a lot worse. Here's the story..
I was at my parent house and getting ready to leave when my dad asked me if i wanted to go for a quick ride just up to the jr high and back. I said sure, it was a great day out, so i threw on my boots, grabbed my gloves, and i was good to go. It was warm enough out that i was just wearing some fleece pants and a sweatshirt adn i was fine. We were walking out to the snowmobiles and i stopped, "Wait, dad dont I have a helmet here somewhere?" and i went back downstairs to get it. I dont even want to think about what would and could have happened if i didnt.
Right when we left the house, we met up with my brother adn his two friends ben, and mike. They stopped adn talked and knew where we were going, so took off ahead of us, my dad and i went at our own pace and followed. We got up to the school where the fields are all open and just started having a blast. Dad and i were heading across one field when my brother and his friends were all coming back, then we turned around and were heading up to the higher fieild. My brother was already down, and i should hacve know, i should have thought about it, but i didnt. MY dad went up and he was fine, i followed, we cruised across the field adn my dad headed over to the right hand side. I was slowing down when i looked over at my dad to only see him waving his hand in the air, what was he doing??
I had only enough time to look right in front of me to see been coming up over the hill in the air.. that was the purpose, cruise up and get air.. well we were both in the wrong spot at the wrong time. There was nothing either one of us could do. I didnt even have time to try and move. Ben came down to the ground, tried as hard as he could to stop, but had no success. I was barely moving but he hit me at about 30 mph. He had jumped off his sled at the last minutes,, i couldnt, i would have been pinned or hit. So i stayed. When he hit me i flipped off my sled, my leg got caught and wrenched around, but came free, then i rolled up and over bens machine, hit the back of his seat rest and flipped onto the ground, all in a matter of seconds. And landed nearly 10 feet from my sled.
I only remember seeing him coming and the fear that set in, then waking up on the ground. Ben apologizing and my dad and brother scared on how they were going to get me out of there. MY brother called my mom and said there was an accident adn to get to the back of the jr high. He wouldnt tell her who was involved and if they were hurt, we didnt want her to panic. I was on the ground and couldnt move. My neck hurt so bad, and where i already have neck problems, it scared my parents. Mu left leg was numb and it hurt to the touch, I needed to get to a hospital.
MY parents got me to the car and got me to the hospital, i recieved xrays of ever kind for my neck, knee and ankle. As it turns out, nothing was broken. The doctor said i was really lucky and i got off easy. I left on crutches, with a severely sprained ankle in a cast, a twisted knee, minor contusions, and a neck that i can barely move. I cant go to work for a few days and i dont know how long it will be before i can drive. So here in my bed i lay, crying for not only the pain i feel, but for my life i still have.
It was an accident, it happens. I was lucky.

MY brother asked me last night, are you going to snowmobile again?!?!? and i said, "Absolutly" .. hes an avid snowmobiler, so that made him proud....
im going to try adn get my dad to take some pictures of the damage to both sleds later today. I know the bens machine has mostly cosmetic damage but there are some trailing arms that are bent. As for my moms, i havent seen it but i guess when ben's ski went into it, it went right into a hole somewhere.. so it didnt do much cosmetic damage. We havent really opened it up to see what it looks like inside, but they both run. Bens left ski was pretty bent but they have to straight enough to get it back home.

Holy crap man....glad to hear your ok. I was ridin Sundee too. That sounds like a pretty bad wreck. Thank goodness you got that helmet before headin out.
Tiff, you might want to take a serious look at your helmet. The most important part is the styrofoam liner. Once it's been compressed, (as in an accident), it's no good any more. Many helmet manufacturers will give you a new helmet free, or give some credit towards a new one, provided you send the old one in.

wow Tiff, jeez - I'm glad all you came out with was some sprains and aches. you're right, it could have been a lot worse.
Whole lotta crap going on in TFNE lately. needs to stop!
I hate to say it kido, but don't expect that leg to ever be the same again. My ankles are still swollen and I have to wear a brace every night on my left foot so I can walk on it the next day. I'm going to a chiropractor on the 2nd and hoping like hell he can help me out.
Keep it elevated and ice it for no more than 1/2 hour at a time. If you're in pain get meds for it. Are you staying with your folks for a bit till you can walk? Just wondering because i had to crawl around after my fall for a week and Dan had to care for Mack and me.
hang in there, things will get better. Think Spring everyone!
