Well I found some awesome shit... You can completely modify the phone.. its freakin awesome..
I would recommand getting an 860.. awesome phone.. just bought one.
But who else likes nextel?
Now don't reply with complaints and bitchings about nextel.. I just want to know how has it and wants some cool shit done.. Like real song ringtones.. custom wallpapers.. (you have a picture of your focus as your wallpaper) you can adjust the way your phone starts up and shuts down. You can add the option of texting from your contact list.. (which nextel is slow on adding that as a feature..) but there is a hack to add texting straight from your contact list instead of going through the net. Plus a ton more things to do to your phone.. and its all free.
edit: this post is number 420.. woohoo

I think they're cool devices great for onsite communications with their walkie-talkie feature. I only used them in my lab but they're live phones so they work in the real world too.
Disneyworld just bought a boat load for the entire amusement park. They had 750's and just upgraded to the 860. Hugh Nextel contract. They had to install extra towers on site to make sure they have adequate coverage.
Now, Disneyworld is not impressed yet with Nextel. I can't tell you how many nights I've received calls about issues with the Nextel system not operating correctly. Disney uses all the bells and whistles like Group Call, Talk Groups and Emergency Group Alerting and some other features so they probably find things wrong that maybe a consumer might not use/notice.
As far as audio quality, when talking through the system/network, it's as good as a cell phone but in walkie talkie mode, it' sounds just just the old two way radio's.
And no, I don't work for Nextel but do support their communications system.

I have one,
Dan
Mikey
Tiff
Harry
Chris (SVT)
Jonny
Who am I forgettin?
I love my nextel but I will tell ANYONE interested in getting one go through the
INTERNET SALES!!!!
You will be bent over sideways at an authorized dealer
ex:
Dan and I needed new phones - they had a BOGO deal on the i710's
Dealer charged me $35/phone for the upgrade and then $20 shipping because they didn't have the damn phones on hand.
Online would have charged me $15/phone upgrade and then the $20 shipping.
I love their Customer Service out of all of the others I've dealt with (Sprint, Virgin)
Sprint has merged with NEXTEL, however they are keeping the NEXTEL Customer Service.
I WAS APESHIT!
Oh, ps - My dad, mom & youngest brother (and his wife) all have NEXTEL (They're in Maine) Dad recently ported from his Verizon phone and it only took 1/2 day. I know Jonny had a hard time but he's up and running.
Another note for those who may be in the market - they switch out plans about every 3 months and even if you currently have a contract and you see another plan you like better than the one you got...you can change without penalty.
Almost forgot - WARNING ON MODDING YOUR PHONE! - you can void any warranties. We discussed this with sales. I used to have a colored Yellow case that I purchased off of E-Bay. Dealer changed out the case but would not warranty it anymore. JUST FYI - None of the cases you can get out there for the Nextel phones - Actual cases, not the ones that slip over the phone - none are OEM, they are all aftermarket and not NEXTEL products. Thus the warranty voiding

Also I just upgraded from a 730 to an 860...... And got the 860 for 200 dollars, brand new!!!
You can't beat that.. its just like buying parts of focus forums.. nextel forums are the shit. I'd go to them before Customer service..(less waiting time, lol)
Nextel sucks, and people who have them need to learn how to use them. So you know, there are two buttons on the side that will turn the volume up or down, and you could even push the speaker button on the top, and use your direct connect just like a phone call....
Sorry for the rant, its annoying....its bad enough haveing to hear some loud ass person talking on the phone, never mind hearing that damn beeping and than hearing a TWO WAY conversation!!!
Im a former Nextel'r, had them for about 4 years, decided to drop them, for the reason it was too expensive for my needs.
Well I am part of the Nextel family. I have a beepie thing number and everything. All of the people I know have Nextel and since I got a discount for working at the hospital, it worked out cheaper than any of the other deals that were out there. I also had to get the "durable" phone. Yeah, we'll see how long that lasts me.
Wow - ok Chris - I'll take your name off the list. hmmm - when did you dump it? I guess I didn't notice.
Ya, those ppl. who use it without being curteous to others annoy me too. I put mine on vibrate when I'm in a store and the speaker is off so I can talk to ppl.without disturbing others.
The expense can be changed if you shop their plans often enough.
Dan and I don't have a land line so our Cells cover all of our home, business and personal calls. Free incoming so anyone can call us and it doesn't take away from our minutes.
