Do I really want to take the kid though?
It would be a 7 day trip, 4 days in Florida, 3 days on a cruise ship to/from the Bahamas (or something like that).
Don't know who I could convince to take her for a week though. Do you think an 8 year old would do okay on a trip like that??

I think it could work out fine. It depends on where you're going & what you're going to do. Disneyland on the agenda? How about the space museum? On the cruise, the boat should have plenty of kid specific stuff, e.g. playgrounds, kid video games, movies, etc.

I was thinking more of a relaxing vacation though, not an entertain the kid vacation.
Never had a honeymoon, just celebrated our 5 year anniversary. I think this would be a great time to do it, but then I'd totaly feel guilty about leaving her behind.

you haven't had a honeymoon and and you've been married for 5 years?

okay so here's my suggestion. How many times have you had a vacation without the little one just you and the hubby? If it is less than 5 then leave the munchkin at a relative's or friend's house. You need special time with the special person. Plus the munchkin has probably been included in 99% of your trips.

Bring her a cool present and she'll be fine. And don't let her guilt you into taking her with you. If you want a relaxing trip, ya ain't gonna get it with an 8 year old running around saying "can we do this, can we do that, I'm bored, what are we doign now, I don't wnat to sit on lounge chairs all day and soak up the sun while you guys are drinking margaritas and sleeping". Just a little tip...cuz I was that kid. I thinks that's why my parents never took me on trips. THey do now but then they leave me at the relatives house and they go stay at a hotel. I don't even want to think about them in a hotel.;nono

Actualy, the biggest trip we have ever been on as a family was like a day in Chicago or a weekend in upper Michigan (visiting familiy). The hubby and I have been on one trip together, and that was a weekend at the Mall of America on my 17th birthday. I'm going to call Grandma this morning to see ifd she will take her. Of course I'm going to feel guilty, but you're right we DO need time away from everything.
We're pretty much middle of the road as far as income goes, but that still doesn't leave much left over for anything.
Better yet, maybe I'll take her for the four days in the Florida, and then put her on a plane back home and go the Bahamas ourselves! lol.

haha, we were married when I was 17 and he was 20. No, there was no honeymoon. There wasn't even a night in the hotel or a night away from our daughter. But that wasn't a big priority for us at all. That might sound strange, but we didn't need a big fancy wedding or anything. All that mattered was the marriage that was to come. Now I'm getting sappy though.

This morning when she woke up she asked me about the trip. Then she asked if we could play on the beach and build sand castles. And she asked me if she could swim, and then asked what about sharks? I told her they're out farther so it's pretty safe. But then she got these wide eyes and asked me, well what about the shrimp??
omg I could have died laughing.

Doesn't matter anymore anyways. The trip was like 700 more than what I was originaly told. I guess we're staying home. :)
