Ok. some of you have heard things on CNN or some other news programs about Canada and Mexico. Here is what is actually going on. On the 31st of December this year,Traveling to the Caribbean, Bermuda, Panama will require that you have a Passport to travel to these spots for vacation. You will not be able to use your Birth Certificate and Driver's License, Naturalization Certificate or Certificate or Certificate of Citizenship anymore for travel to these locations. December 31st, 2006 Mexico and Canada will also require the use of a passport. The above that I have mentioned to use to go to:Caribbean, Bermuda and  Panama will no longer be accepted. By 2007 all boarder crossings to these countries will be Closed. Hence again the us of a U.S. Passport.

Oh no, boooooo. I've never had a Passport! Well, luckily I don't travel outside the States much (twice ever).

Ok, Insider... can you tell me how long til a Passprt expires? They do that right? I'm sure I could find it online, but I don't want to search because it'll remind me passports costs $$ too, while my Birth Certificate doesn't:(

Sure Amanda. Children's passports are good for 5years. Adult Passporst are good for 10years.

1. Adult First Time Passport Cost: $97.00
2. Children's Passports: $82.00
3. Renewals:$67.00

There is a $12.00 security fee that has been added the passport fee's. This fee is for the new security that is being installed in teh newer passports. The newer ones will have a Biometric Chip in the back of the passpport. The info. pertains to the passport holder.  By the year 2007 All border crossings that are: Canada, Mexico, Bahamas, Carribean, Bermuda and Panama will be closed.  Also for those that are into the series as I am, there is a rumor that the Government is working on it's own C.T.U. which stands for Counter Terrorist Unit. The reason for the closing of the boarder crossing's is in part due to 9-11-2001. It is getting very difficult to travel anywhere without a passport. Down the road, no specifics on when this will happen, but you maybe required to have a passport just to fly from State to State. This is not set in stone as of yet.

With the $12.00 security fee in place, the current passport are being mailed back to the customers via Priority Mail. Normal turn  around time for a passport now is 6weeks. As we get into full blown Peak Season this will change to 8-10weeks. Best time to get the passport back, wether renewal, first time or to have the passport ammended is about 4-6weeks during, Sept, Nov, Dec, Jan, Feb, March, April. The passports have not been completed as of yet that contain the new Biometric Chip. This is slated sometime in late April or early May. This will be issued out of the Los Angeles Passport Agency.

Yup. Canucks and all other great hockey teams require passports as of Jan 1 2006.:D

Doesn't bother me, been carrying a passport for at least 45 years. Have always needed one for most of Europe and all of Asia anyway.

Wow whenever I get one, for $97 I better travel like Whoa! Get the most bang for my buck outta that puppy!

If they decide to do the passport to fly between states thigs I'm gonna get fiesty... that's a little over the top, IMHO. We already flash our licenses and tickets, if you're a citizen you should be able to cross within your own country.

Good to know about the price hike though, so I know what to expect if I go to issue myself one!

Come on down your always welcome in Texas.

As one of the few native white boys from San Antonio you come to find out, there are several Texas accents(seriously). Living in S.A.  for 41 of my 51 years, I never really notice it until I moved to N.E. Tx.  Dallas women have a kind of Texas twang, go east not more than 100 miles the women have the same twang but they turn a 1 syllable word into 2 or 3 for instance left is l-eft. You'd have to hear it to believe your ears. Me and my exfiance' have just gotten back together (no engaged though) an it's tough to resist teasing her but she is a real sweety. And it's been a long time since.....

So just to clarify, I am going to Tijuana in June. I don't need anything more than my driver's license to get in? Do I have to bring anything for my daughter or are there certain things I should bring "just in case"? We will be spending the night there.

03 white ZX3,

I'm not sure if this applies to border towns with U.S./Mexico but in flying, to Cancun, you need a copy of your birth certificate(no passport), you can get a small miniature card size one from you local county records department. I seriously doubt at a border town you would need this but just check to avoid any hassles.
