My Brownie Troop decided to donate half of their profits from cookie sales this year to a local radio station that would send them to troops overseas. On the majority of the 100+ boxes we donated, we included our address and a letter the girls wrote (photocopied of course lol).
We got our first letter today! It was very cool and I hope we get more! I know our girls will be so excited reading it and writing back at our meeting this wednesday.
I was just excited and had to share.

:D
Yep we sent over 100 boxes (and at $3.00 a box, that took a nice bite out of our troop profits! lol- it was wonderful of the girls to think of the troops overseats!).
I loved these parts of the letter:
" I am 22 years old and have spent almost 4 years defending our great country and what you are doing for us is one of the nicest things I have ever seen." and my absolute favorite part...."Dreams can always come true. Stay in school and strive for excellence because one of you could be the first woman president!!"
lol.
He even made it a point to thank each of the girls by name!
Sorry. I'm still just grinning over this. We have been looking for a service member to "adopt" and he just sounds like such a nice guy. :D
edit: we actualy just contributed to a local radio station's drive to send each wisconsin service member a box of Girl Scout Cookies. There is also a couple in our area that donates between 5,000 and $10,000 worth of cookies each year!!!

This is very nice.  I send random e-mails to the troops.  there are dozens of websites where you can do things like that.  It helps morale!

These guys & Girls need it!

I'm a troop.    I'm not overseas at the moment though.  But i know a few folks.  I appreciate this allot cause allot of the news seems like no one cares about the troops.

one of the girls at the hospital here does the same thing. her troop sends out cookies. Its the only good reason to have samoas in the building and not sell them to me. Probably a good thing since I would blow up from the fat in the cookies. But oh god its so worth it.
