Well some of the MTX are in the bare-bones base models, which are tachless... as opposed to tactless, which is Ford not giving cars with manual transmissions a tachometer.
I think the some of the MTX foci are the ones that totally striped down. I don't think there are to many ATX's that don't have the tachs. There are a few but not many. I guess you could use the stupid shift light. LOL
I have a pretty base model zx3, mt and no extras but ac.
I still have a take though
My brother in law who also has a focus (sedan) but has some extras, mp3 player, power windows locks etc, doesn't have a tach with his mtx!

i know about the reflashing thing....but hey i figured we could just switch. and go to the dealership and biggety bam. why is it stored in the damn cluster thats stupid...what if ther battery in the cluster dies and it gets reset?

I think it uses some sort of solid state so it won't forget, I think it's retarded also, but not just the cluster stores the mileage the ECU also knows what the mileage is, prevents fraud from being more common place. As for not having a Tach I don't understand, I have the Power Premium package however it's a stick and a sedan, my only thought was that they didn't put too many tachs into sedans at the time. It's strange, between 2000 and 2002 there are some weird combinations of parts in the Focus.
