Anyone have some input on radar detectors. I've researched and looked and what I came down to #1 Valentine(very pricey) #2 Beltronics or Escort(lots of choices in price and models. For the money and the features I went with a PNI Sensoro X7500 has most of the popular features, wireless or cord, very compact unit. It's supposed to retail around $150 bought a new one on ebay for $104.00 including shipping. It held up pretty well in rating tests of units more than twice the price. Guess I'll see but I'll let you guys know how it performs. Later
Sounds like a good find... I've heard some good things about Bel detectors, but I don't know much about these things in general.
Let us know how you like it! I've thought of getting one a lot, but I've smartened up as a driver and my car is no longer a red convertible... no one suspects the dark blue Focus hatch!
Why do you need a radar detector? If you follow the law and don't speed, you won't have any surprise meetings with the popo!
I made my husband use this old one (probably a good 10 years old) when he had a 40 minute drive to work every day. Hell, I'm sure it had a lot of false alarms, but it made him slow down!
Ha. I got a ticket in my white Focus hatch with hockey stickers and paint all over the windows (you know, like when you drive your kid to an away game and you paint their number on the window?)
Maybe I drew too much attention to myself there! lol
Anywho, let us know how it works, I wouldn't mind buying my husband a better one.

Yeah, I can relate, I'm a high school teacher. I feel that after the defensive driving course (to erase ticket off my driving record). The radar dectector should keep me on alert and if it saves me just one ticket, it will have paid for itself. I consider my self a conservative driver but sometimes you're in an area that your not familiar with out of town/even where you live and speed limits will change in a small distance and Mr. Motorcycle cop is there. Just this morning I saw a guy in a pickup get a ticket right in the exact area I did.
Oh, Amanda, the car I got tagged in was my Silver Miata.
Well you know, shit happens. LOL!! Take care.

I use it all the time, esp. around town. Speed limit 35? I set it at as close to 40 as I can get it, then forget it. Mine will even set low enough to accomodate 25 mph zones.

Its a shame most people don't use their cruise control. I think they're afraid of it. I cruised home from Michigan at about 80 and my radar detector lit up only twice. I recommend doing the long distance driving on Sundays. Less traffic and less popo's.

I LOoooooove My Cruise! Use it all the time!

I don't have CC, but I do have a radar detector. It's a cheap brand,
but has saved me from tons of tickets. The only time I've gotten
tickets while owning it were when I ignored it thinking it was a false
alarm or something.
I've used CC in other vehicles, but have problems setting it any lower
than I'd usually go anyway. I usually run about 75 on the freeway,
80-85 on long trips. So the cruise control wouldn't do me any good.
It'd just take my feet off the pedals for when I do need to slow down.
Get a cheap radar detector for ~$80-90. DON'T IGNORE IT! If it beeps
slow down. Make sure to get one with X, XA, KA and laser detection at
minimum. Mine is a 7-band, and it works really well for freeway use.
I just received my PNI Sensoro 7500. It works fine but I really just haven't gotten used to it yet. It's about the size of a pack a cigarettes, nice looking unit. It did fairly well in test comaprisons to similar units and some upscale units but I'll report back when I do some hwy. driving. Pretty much an unknown brand but for about $100 on ebay, it can use batteries or power plug, also has 3 different filtering levels, supposed to detect at 360 degrees radius. When it goes off Mr. Policeman isn't generally too far away.
At this point, not much I can do but give it a try. This was in town driving and just too many things to take in consideration (the 3 levels of filtering and so on). The real test will be on the Hwy. and see what results I receive without speeding. I've flushed a $100 down a slot machine in less than a minutes, more time than I'd like to admit to, so at least, I won't be financially and emotionally scarred for life, LOL!!.
If it turns out to be a POS, I'll let you guys know.
I don't know which states but there are several that radar detectors are illegal.
The term for radar detectors with lasers detectors is POP (for stationary hand held type that they point and then turn on instantaneous once the Po Po picks their target victim). I'm still skeptical about this area (the speed of light and all that other physics stuff) just too fast for you to react. Now this unit is (supposed to have ) 5 radar signals detector band X,K,Ka, VG2 and Spectre1, and 5 different laser signal detectors. All of this don't mean squat unless it works. Most police on the hwy use the Ka band. It will tell you what type of radar it's detecting. Hwy. driving is why I bought it.
Where I'm moving to, my commute will be 24 miles each way on a state hwy (55 mph max.). I'll make sure to ask the locals, about the police, on this stretch of road. It's more of a defensive tool to keep me on my toes.
