A '92 Miata with that low mileage, is almost a collectors item. Is yellow the original color and is it a standard? First year production was '89. Change oil and basic maintenace the (N/A=first body style Miata) is an unbelievably reliable car, inexpensive to maintain and fun to drive.
Turn on A/C, they can't get out of their own way, w/o it's a peppy ride. They way the 5 speed is geared it's a true sports car, handling is unbelievable, many people race them now since drifting has become popular. Lots of them on ebay for sale. Older models are easy to work on and mod and parts are available and quite inexpensive. Guys don't knock them until you drive one, it's like a big go-kart.
The early Miatas had a 1.6 in them- all they are is a beefed-up Festiva
motor. You can bolt in a 1.8 from a later year, or, if you wanna do
some custom fab work, a 1.8 from a 91-94 Escort GT or 90-94 Protege LX
(the intake manifold, oil pan and exhaust manifold is different).
Flyin' Miata makes a supercharger kit they call the "uber-charger"
which is supposed to crank out some serious ponies. You have a lot of
engine options if custom fab is your bag- you could even import a
Protege GTX or GTR motor (both 1.8 turbo's, 180 and 210hp,
respectively) and swap them in.
Just a tip on the motor swaps, too: The Protege and EGT 1.8L BP's have
stronger bottom ends because they have a MBSP (main bearing support
plate). The Miata's doesn't IIRC.
My '91 will probably stay stock, unless something goes wrong with engine. How about a Ford 302 V8, you'd probably have to fill trunk with cement to keep it on the ground but it has been done.
