I've been following the Diebold election machine story.
I was under the impression that Americans had the right to write in a name on a ballot even if that person hadn't registered as a candidate. If the write-in person turned out to be the majority then he/she won. As an example: If the majority of Californians wrote in Rick's name on the ballot he would be elected even though he hadn't declared.
You can't write in on an electronic voting machine.
Am I correct on the "write-in" status?
