Yeap, unfortunately my vacation can't get moved up any sooner, so I'm just gonna have to make do with that.  Regardless, I can at least start hauling some items over, and get an early start on things.

I soooo cannot wait.

This is GREAT news!

Dan and I want to buy a house.  We both hate where we live right now.  He's even had to take a 2nd job so we can get the money together.

Awesome to hear someone's moving forward!

The only thing I have to be careful about now is my roommate getting a dog and basically picking it up that same friday when we get the place.  Dogs are not allowed on the site

I am just hoping that English bulldogs (I think thats what he's getting) are not very vocal.  He has a plan to avoid getting caught with it, but still, the minute he gets caught with the thing, I'm moving back out.

umm... yeah... getting a dog when they are not allowed... very very very bad idea. As hard as you try you can never keep them a secret. Definatly something to think about... and you may want to start taking a gander now at what you can find for living situations.

Anyways... Congrats on the move in!!! Looks like this week is the moving week (I should be in my new place by friday too :))

Yeah, i'm a bit sketchy with the whole deal.  Apparently, dogs are allowed on visitation, but can't be kept by tenants.  Also, the people we know across the way from our pad have a PB, kept there as well, I guess they have had good luck keeping the thing outta sight.

One thing is good though, is we have a fenced in area with a small patch of green for the little pup to piss / shit in, so its not like he will be seen in public there.  I'm gonna make Brian get a crate so we can crate him at night and when we are not home.  I'm just more concerned about the pooch chewing up stuff (I will go ballistic if it gets into my room and causes havoc!).

I don't mind saying that the dog thing is a VERY bad idea.

He is risking you guys being evicted, cited, fined or losing the dog outright.

I wouldn't risk it myself, and that patch of grass is going to give your dog away...it will yellow with urine and dog poo.

Really bad idea - also, a crate isn't the answer always...is someone going to be there for the dog?  You can't leave him/her alone for hours and hours on end...it's considered cruelty.  I refuse to leave my dog alone for any more than 4 hours MAX.

That is a good point too. The crate is alright from time to time, and even to sleep in, but you cant keep the poor pup in there all day when you are at work and then if you want to go out at night. Someone has to be there for him. I know you work long hours, and I know Brian is a cop so his hours could be ungodly.... when are people going to be around for the doodles to play with??

Im with Chelly... I HATE leaving Franklin alone all day. Even knowing he is alone when Im at work kills me. Its to the point where I know i wont be around friday night (which in itself im feeling guilty about) so im taking Friday off work so i can atleast spend the day with him before we go see 311.

The doggie is a bigger responsibility than people think. They dont think of the little things that come up when having a pup needs to come first. I would definatly talk to Brian about it... its not just the fact that he isnt supposed to have a dog (which is a HUGE issue mind you) but also everything that comes along with it

Well, fortunately, my name isn't on any mortgage, so I can leave whenever I want.

AFAIK, my roommate has this plan of telling whomever finds the dog that we are just babysitting, and the dog will be removed ASAP, and pay for whatever fines we get.  He said he will take on all that crap, he's buying the dog, its his responsibility.  Anything that happens, its all on him

Oh, I fully agree with that.  One of us will be there for the dog no matter what, my roommate works mostly at night, I work mostly during the day, I think there is a 3-4 hour window where we won't be home, depending on work schedules.  Plus, we might have a 3rd person living with us for a bit that can take care of the dog as well, and he works mostly days and is out by 4 or 5.  The dog won't be neglected.

I think he's being stupid as well, but hey, its his house, let him do what he wants.  If its time for me to boot, so be it, I'll just be more adamant on getting my own space again.  If we somehow manage to get evicted, its all his own damn fault.  I'm just gonna be there to say "I told you so" when he gets served.

Well, I have talked to him about it, but he is so set straight on getting this dog.  I, myself, think its not that good of an idea (there are still parts of me thinking this will work), but talking Brian out of something (or about some issue) is like talking to a brick wall sometimes.  I'm flip-flopping over a: we can work it with our schedules, and b: it won't work and he will end up giving the dog to someone else.  I, myself, do not want to see the dog suffer, and its gonna kill me to see it in any state other than happy.

Our schedules are fairly different from each other though.  I mostly work 9AM till 11PM average (days I'm not working at the store I'm done by 5PM).  He works 6PM - 2AM on the nights he's on, and he's on a 4 day on, 2 day off cycle, so he has those 2 days off in between as well.  So, the dog pretty much has coverage when it comes to the potty part, and playing and whatnot.  Knowing Brian, that dog will be mad tired most of the day anyways.

I'm gonna do my part to take care of the dog when I am home, but he's in full control of the thing: he buys the food, the toys, crate, and is responsible if anything happens with the groundspeople.  He's buying the dog, not me.

Plus, if I happen to be allergic to the dog, I will be moving on anyways.  I'm not having allergy attacks on a nightly basis to keep a roof over my head (I'm allergic to certain types of dog and cat hairs).

My last comment on the dog thing.

I find it very selfish for this person you're moving in with to purchase a dog, establish a bond (which happens very quickly) and if he gets 'busted" for having the dog in the complex - dump it like yesterday's garbage.

That is very stressful on the dog and extremely unfair. There are so many dogs out there that are discarded because of these situations.  It breaks my heart to think he would be this careless about a life. :(:(:(

I know what you mean, and he's set on getting and keeping the dog.  I'm going to be royally pissed at him if he falters this up.

I'm keeping my eyes open for an available apartment, because the more I think about things, the more I feel he is going to get frustrated and find somewhere else to live, in which I would have no other choice than to move out, and in that event, it will be back on my own, and I will make it work.

I'm kicking myself somewhat for not going with my first choice of the studio out in Westborough initially, but at the same time, that would probably have a heftier consequence, mainly because I have to cough up 1600 for school by January, and I can't do that when I have "just" enough to get by for the month.

Couldn't have said it better myself. The only thing I'd like to add is that this guy is not only messing with, and likely screwing up, the dog's life but yours as well. If this doesn't work out, (and I'd be very, very surprised if it does), you are going to have to look for another place to live after all you've already been through. IMO, this is a really selfish, uncaring, thoughtless, and stupid move on the part of your roomie. If it were me, I'd tell him if he gets the dog, he can ;kb.

One thing I'm making clear, I plan to stay there only until next summer, after I'm done with the upcoming spring semester of school.  He only plans to stay at that house for like 2 years, then buy another place.

I will be suprised as well if all this works out.  Also, I guess his girlfriend will be spending some time at the house as well, as far as I can tell, so I'm hoping thats a good thing for the dog.

On the lighter side of things, the house is huge!!!! I started getting things into the new place last night.  We also have the poker table set up (in place of a regular dining room table), part of the kitchen stuff, and some stuff upstairs.  My bedroom has the loft, so looks like I found a (hopefully) private work area for schoolwork and whatnot.  I just gotta figure out how I'm gonna run the cable for the internet, and how I'm going to set everything up.  I will be bringing more stuff tonight, and I'll be sure to get pics up as soon as I can.
