Sweet baby Jesus $3.99... for regular? Even Premium that's obscene.

Yeah so I checked in with the fam, same Shell station, regular unleaded

Aug. 8th = $2.46
Aug. 31st = $2.90

Ouch. And there are reports down here of 50 cents and up from last night!

we were at 2.67 on Monday when I filled up (and told my husband to but of COURSE he didn't listen!). Yesterday we were at like 2.89 and today we are at 2.99 where we are. I couldn't believe it when I heard 3.99 so close to me!

Welcome to the world that the rest of the world lives in.:D
You are looking at $4.00/gallon.
I've been living with $3.00+ for ages. At $4.12/gallon yesterday here.

Sooooo, do you think Ford will finally get the message? Guess not. just as I was typing this there was an advert for an Explorer.

Just think, you'll see lots more small cars on the road in the not to distant future. :D

I dunno about not-so-distant, I mean we're talking slow, stupid American mass public. I still see Hummers, I still see big ole F250s with itty bitty women in them who don't seem to know where Home Depot is, nevermind have any inclination to haul stuff from there.

I do think eventually they'll catch on, but if you have a big car/truck thing, and are paying its payment, what's $3 a gallon for gas?! It sounds absurd, but a lot of people's budgets won't notice the hit yet... eventually but I don't think we've reached Critical Mass. I do know my mom's little Escape that we DO haul crap in frequently, spends about $90 a week in gas. Her commute is also 55 miles each way, in "highway" traffic that acts like city driving.

The negative IQ squad that can't figure it out for themselves will end up having to choose whether to pay for fuel, make the payment to Ford Motor Credit or eat. When we hit 3.75 ish for gasoline here you started seeing more and more late model trucks and suvs on the used car lots.
I feel bad for a lot of people who actually believed that gasoline would stabilize or drop back and then bought a gas pig. It won't take long especially in the northern states when the fuel oil bills start coming in this winter, for some hard decisions to be made.
I'll keep my Focus because it's a great little car. But more of my driving is done in the Jetta TDi which delivers twice the mileage of the Focus or in the smart car that is on order which delivers 3 times the mileage of the Focus.

OK... over the last few days i have b een watching the same Gibbs gas station.... and this is what has been happening with it.....

Tuesday 4pm: $2.64/gal
Wednesday 7am: $2.89
Wednesday 4pm: $3.07
Thursday 7am: $3.29

Now, i always thought Gibbs was supposed to be kinda on the cheap side. Guess now. The Irving accoss the street from it is still at $2.89, thats lots but i know where im going at lunch to fill up!

I dont know how long we can deal with this though. There is the need to drive to work and back since there is no public transit here in seacoast NH, and the distance from work to home is to far to walk. THEN, Bill has to drive to Hyannis saturday AND monday to drop off/pick up the kid... that would take a tank of gas round trip (16 gal tank that is). I dont know how he is going to do it. We budgeted gas at like $40 a fill-up.. its now over $50.... and with atleast 7 fills in a month, that adds up FAST.

I got tagged for $3.189/gallon this morning x 10.661 gallons = $34.00

And that only buys me a little less than a week.

I know bitchin' won't solve the problem, and frankly there isn't much we can do about it.  But dayum.  And I thought the Focus was going to save me on gas.

Yes, the smart is a neat little vehicle. I thought that the TDi was good on fuel. One of my guys bought one. He's always had a vocal attitude about the others around the office that "waste" money on fuel. When he went on holidays he offered to let me play with it for a week. Handles well, feels bigger on the inside than it looks from the outside and with a modest re-chip it's got plenty of power. Drove it on the highway at 75-80mph and had a grin a mile wide when I went to fill it up. Getting change back from a $10.00 bill when filling up after a 250 mile trip made my day. There's even a bike rack available for it.

I like the little smart cars, but does anyone know if they are actually legal here in the states?  I'm not certain based on what little I know of them if they are or not.

Price gouging happening in Georgia - some places are charging $6.00 gallon for gas.  Chicago is over $4 and we're all climbing.:gofast

Ih Codger, get us a few pics of your Smart!! I think they're fun, they sorta walk the line of so ugly it's cute, or just so little it's cute? But I think they're funky, and I'm sure they're gas sippers!

Wasn't Mercedes gonna bring them to the US, then for some reason the plan got scrapped? They might wanna rethink that a little! Chelly, you might be able to escort a Smart over the border? It's not like Canada is Europe and has the <5 mph bumpers and stuff... I dunno though.

And as for the gas stations in Georgia:fuWhat kind of evil asshats take advantage of a tragedy like Katrina and gouge the gas up to $6 before they're even short on it?! Goddamn, I'd torch the stations I saw doing that! Well, I'd want to...

The smarts are not being sold in the US. With the wierd CARB weighting of what is and what isn't a pollutant, diesels can only be sold in a small portion of the US market. It's a strange political thing from what I can gather. The European standards are much stricter than the CARB standard but for some reason the clean European diesels don't pass CARB.

LOL "they sorta walk the line of so ugly it's cute" the same has been said about me, so I guess the car suits me. :D

Then choose a country in the pull-down.

I ordered a smart pure, then loaded it up. Note the prices on the Canadian site. Cdn $ is about .80 US. I hope to have it by Christmas so that I can take it on my annual drive south.
I'm actually keeping an eye open for a deal on a cabrio demo as well. I can park two smarts sideways in the driveway and take up the same space as the Focus.

Sideways?! Like nose to nose and rear bumper to rear bumper would be the width of our Foci? Yikes. They seem so little, but so do MINIs, and they feel more spacious than they look too...

I wanna smart!:driv

OMG, this ROCKS: "smart body panels are made of scratchproof polycarbonate plastic. They are fully exchangeable and recyclable, do not rust and withstand light bumps without denting. Available in a range of attractive colours. If you feel like a new colour, simply visit your smart Centre to have the body panels exchanged."

Polycarb swappable panels? How sweet is that? I could have a car that matches my Nalgene bottles! Glass roof?!

Wow these things are NEAT! I have Canada envy... :( Ok I priced a smart with literally everything I could (except the BRABUS stuff), like if it was allweather versus velour floormats, I did velour, etc...
$25,800CDN or $20600 USD. It only starts at $13,300 and it's got a bunch of stuff just "stripped", like all the brake systems and such. Damn CARB/politics...

Not quite that short. I can park 2 side by side in the same space as the Focus takes lengthways. When I was driving the smart around i parked it between a couple of cars on the street just by driving straight in between them until both my front wheels were up against the curb. Back of the car didn't stick out at all. :D

I do know that the panels of this are Polycarb, but there is a piece of this thing that if it gets scratched you can't 'touch up' without painting the whole thing.

I read a bunch of stuff on it on the Merc website.
