Well the insurance company just called and said they are not willing to insure our 1975 Datsun 280Z.
It is modified (full roll cage along with some other things) also and they got wind of that (don't know how).
Who can we go through to insure a 30 year old car?
We're in Wisconsin.

Brennan Insurance agency will insure it. They're based in Milwaukee. (414) 271-7157) They insure my '68 Dodge for the summer. Just don't mention it's modified. They don't ask.

If you want "full coverage" the best way to go is "agreed value" insurance. This basically means that if anything happens to the car (accident, tree falls on it, stolen, etc) it is covered for an agreed amount (say $10,000). This usually you can get through your homeowner's insurance / company.

Interesting.I will have to ask about the insured value thing tomorow.
Got another phone call from the insurance agent stating we don't have too long to decide on what to do before our insurance company drops us completely. Obviously the car has to come off of our policy immediately.

Check this out, looks like they insure a lot of things.

Don't know if they work in your area. http://www.classicins.com/index.htm

Yeah, that's what I'm thinking. Don't know why though. Never made a claim and haven't missed (or been late) a payment.
We're just going to park it in the garage, drop the coverage on it and pick a different insurance company when our policy is due in february.
It sucks because this affects our homeowners insurance too :(

That's just weird. Sounds crappy, good luck on your new insurance hunt. Hiding it in the garage for a couple months is probably a good idea, then you can take your time and shop around, get things in order with less of a rush.

Did they say why they wouldn't insure it? Is it because it's modded, because it's 30?!

The roll cage can be a problem. Way back I posted about a couple that hit a deer on a back road in Ontario. The car had a roll cage because it was used for timed sanctioned rally. The insurance company denied the claim because they had not been notified of a "major" modification.
Careful.

Careful."

I asked if it was because of the roll cage or because of the age of the car. Depending on which agent we get, the story changes and I can't get a true answer.
I'm thinking we'll go back to our old insurance company.
Our pretty heavily modified CRX was broken into, and they even replaced all modifications! They didn't know the car was modded until that day either.

I'm telling you, call Brennan Insurance. They insure me and my wife for less than $175/mo, even though I have 5 speeding tickets, and Sherri has an at-fault accident.

There are companies out there that will insure this vehicle...it's just a matter of doing the footwork (web) to find the ones that will at a reasonable cost.

My father will be running his camaro next year and he'll have something for insurance on it and it's a 1970 Camaro w/ a roll cage and done up to nearly 700 hp. definitely not street legal, but he's put a lot of time and money into it so he'll definitely need something in case of property damage etc.
