My computer's broke. Dell keeps giving the run-around about fixing it. IT'S UNDER WARRANTY BITCH! Anyway, I'm on my dad's computer right now. Just wanted to let you all know. I won't be on until it's fixed.

Sorry. Miss you guys. Will post pics from HIN Chicago when I get back. Got a new digital camera so it's going with.

Don't ever buy a dell.

Best way to use a dell, especially a laptop?

Wipe the hard drive clean, install Fedora Core 4 on there :D

Okay, your going to have to help me out JSClark.  I know what Red Hat is though Ive never used it.  Im unfamiliar with Fedora Core but I went to a couple websites to just look over the highlights and seen it is a part of Red Hat.

Okay, that said.  I sat down not two weeks ago and contemplated going completely open source since I uses so much open source stuff now for the web.

1. Apache 2
2. PHP 5
3. MySQL 5
4. Joomla CMS

When I considered going completely open source, I looked around as to just what all I could actually convert to.  Obviously there are web browsers out there so thats no biggie, there is OpenOffice to replace MS Office.  I found what appears to be some pretty decent virus scanning stuff.  Someone needs to make an open source instant messenger that will allow you to use your AIM, Yahoo, MSN accounts, but thats another story.

At any rate, Fedora, being Linux based, can it run windows applications?  All my video and photography editing stuff is windows based as well as my business applications.  I want despirately to get out of commercial software and move to open source where I dont have to wait for the software maker to hopefully implement what I need.  Rather I would be able to  build it if necessary or find a coder that would do so for me.  It allows for so much more flexibility, security and stability.

So, what can you tell me about Fedora?  I assume since you recommended it that you are using it so would be in a better position to kinda give me some insight.  My main concern obviously is compatability with the software I already have, some of which if I have to re-purchase is going to make it totally uneconomical to consider an open source operating system.

Anyway, if you dont want to post here, just email me.  Thanks.
