Hi All.
The point of the article is that Ford spends a huge pile of money on NASCAR and that the return on that money is marginal at best.
I'm not a fan of NASCAR but I'm wondering if anyone thinks that Ford actually does get sales out of ther money that they spend?

I'm not a fan of it either. The question that interests me is: Would 75million be better spent by Ford elsewhere?
There are a couple of points made that I've never thought about. The vehicles concerned basically go in to rental fleets. The fact that a vehicle is in Hertz's or Avis's rental fleet is not a postive factor in any decision I've ever made. I rented one last summer that happened to be the same model that the local police were driving and the thought came to me that I would have refused that model if I'd known beforehand. Driving a vehicle that many immediately view with suspicion and distrust on sight, if not downright animosity, is not high on my list.

I think the guy makes some very good points about "drivers cult" and what NASCAR is in general. It's hard to remember any time in recent history when a driver or team has actually endorsed or praised the brand of car they drive. It's getting to be the same in drag racing. The fans know that despite the car bodies being used, they are all using crate engines, so brand loyalty, or brand performance really isn't a factor any more.
BTW, I love the green Caddy!

Ditto Rick
I can honestly say this Cash Cow NASCAR phenom has shown me nothing but a way to throw thousands of rednecks together into one small area to consume mass quanities of beer, oggle the women (although, many are pretty nasty if you ask me), and not a whole lot else as far as absorbing any type of education. I only say that as my uncle is an extreme fan of NASCAR and he is a)on the verge of bankruptcy, yet finds his way to watch the races and pay per view them at home. 2)has a beer gut that enters a doorway 5 minutes before he does 3)smokes (no joke here folks) 3-4 packs of cigarettes a day. When at the track...much more!
One thing I am happy about is the fact that the sponsorship by cigarette manufacturers is dwindling and we're seeing other types of sponsors step in. Hell - look at what Nextel has done! So, if they're making all of this $$$ on NASCAR, why the hell is my phone bill so damn huge!?!?!

I dont really care for it either. Round and around and around. I think a good number of viewers watch it for the crashes. I'd rather watch the grass grow.
