Yeap... as of the 21st of this month, I FINALLY quit my hellhole of a day job, quit civil engineering forever, and start my new job on the 24th.
I got a job working at Monster.com's headquarters in the call center.... I basically field calls that have to do with site quality. 13 bucks an hour to start, but hey, I need to start somewhere.
THe main reason: I got the major shaft at my current job. People made up this bullshit saying that I was on the internet all day, AIM, and whatnot, and not doing my work. So I was placed on a probationary period for the month of March. I said, fuck this, and shot out a bunch of resumes, and the biggest one was my interview at Monster.
Went through some testing for sales, call center, IT, and whatnot... I scored much higher in the CC and IT parts, and THANK GOD I did not score well for sales. I am not a salesperson, never have been, never will.
this week is my last week at my present job, and then the 24th, all hell will break loose in the call center at Monster
Only thing that bothers me is that I am taking a paycut... but its the price you pay to change your career, and I know I can get through it... I've been through worse
dude, i seriously know what you mean. i work for a civil engineering firm doing construction observation during the summer and cad during the winter, along with some surveying when needed. moneys not bad, but the hours can seriously suck since i have to be there when the crews are.
also, dealing with contractors and such is a major pain in the ...
ive wanted to walk away so many times its not funny, but when you pay next to nothing for bennies its hard to walk away.
Yeah, I saw myself going nowhere with Civil. All I was doing was menial CAD shit (basically prints and minor edits) while the rest of my team did the more interesting work, that *I* could do. I just didn't seem to fit in the picture at all there.
I wanted to get more into the design engineering of everything, since that is where my Associate's lies... and I imagined myself getting an EIT, and eventually a PE, but nah... too much risk involved when it comes to legal terms.
been there with the legal crap. going through arbitration is so much fun,,,yay
cad i do is usually as builts but for the last month ive been doing city maps...from scratch. heres the book of plats, have at it...talk about a major....
like summer best, always on the road and never around the office. got subcontracted by a railroad to oversee safety. state is putting a bridge over the tracks. wow, i get to sit all day and watch for violations.
usually work underground projects or street projects
