I got my new ring gear in yesterday. I got it from a fellow Grand Prix owner/enthusiast for the cost of shipping basically. I am grateful to the guy because the thing is absolutely in pristine condition. I got a quote from the dealer and one would have cost $200 brand new from them, so this fellow owner saved me a ton of money to say the least and shipped it lightning fast.

I now have to get things like the valve body, channel plate and such broke down so I can clean them up and take it to the cryo treatment facility. After that, I will take the case and either have it powder coated or do it myself. I would much rather do it myself as I can get creative and control the process to my liking rather than just having a shop coat it and be done with it.

After that, it will be time to do the reassembly. It will cost a couple hundred dollars to get the entire transmission cryo treated, which is not bad given the benefits.

Just thought I would step in and let you know that nothing has changed since my last post. Im at the stage where Im prepping everything for cryo treatment and getting money together for the couple more expensive things I'll need, namely the valve body work and the single chain drive.

I had considered going from stock 2.93 gearing up to 3.29, but with gas prices as they are, Id rather have my fuel economy and if I could find 2.70's range gears in a heavy duty form that would work with the tranny I would go with that instead.

I got a few pictures of the valve body disassembly, but that was pretty much uneventful. The channel plate is all cleaned up. I ordered a bushing kit so that I can have those cryo treated and replace all those.

Anyway, I'll post back once I have some more pics and info. Ive totally stripped down my wiring harness to nothing but the wires and the connectors and have been working rearranging and rewiring that so that it will be neater looking in the engine bay.

One good thing about having such a project as I have undertaken is that its easy to convince the wife that I need tools.  Well I really do, so I suppose it isnt a matter of convincing her its just a matter of getting the go ahead when the money is there to do so.

Well for fathers day she let me splurge a little.  First was I got a new 19.2v Cordless drill and light combo package.  My craftsman 18v set had died after many years of service so I needed to replace that.

One of my customers (A focus SVT owner) had just recently gave me an air compressor but I have no air tools.  Well, she said there's no point in having a compressor and no tools, so I got to make another trip to the tool store and pick up a few things.

Bearing/Race installer and remover.  Will be extremely handy for the transmission build.

0 - 6" digital caliper

0 - 4" digital caliper

Angle die grinder

Straight die grinder

Today Im going to pick up another straight die grinder with a 3" extension which will come in REAL handy for finishing up the port work on the supercharger and the throttle body.

I can hardly wait to get started on that supercharger.  That has been something I have been really anxious to get done and to see how well it will turn out.
