Well, they say from tragedy some good will come...
As many of you know I lost the love of my life, Rajah, My 9yo Blue Dobermann Pinscher to liver Cancer back on March 6th, 2004.
I will be adopting a 3 year old Am. Staffordshire Terrier (also known as a pit bull terrier) from my youngest brother, Tim.
Here is what happened - Timothy, 3 years ago, watched a female give birth to some puppies at a friends house and helped with the birth. Tim was able to take one of them, named him Bo. Well Bo has had a wonderful life with Tim. There was a situation where poor Bo was attacked by a German Shepard when he was little. never got over it...still doesn't like them to this day. Anyway. Mack was another one of the puppies born. Mack went to another home where unfortunately, he wasn't given the attention and work he needed. Tim, 2 years ago took Mack into the house because they owner of Mack was going to send it to the pound. I'm not sure if you all realize this, but these terriers don't fare well when it comes to adoption.
Mack and Bo were playing Saturday, 8/8/04 and Mack had a basket ball and was having a great time. Bo, always the bully toward Mack the very loving and marshmallowy pushover, decided he was going to bully Mack again. Bo wanted to take the ball from Mack and Mack decided that today he wasn't going to give it up and he told Bo no. Well, Bo didn't like to be told no and Bo doesn't share well. Mack always shares.
Well, a fight between brothers ensued and Mack got the worst of it. He was beat up pretty bad by Bo and had to have surgery on Sat. night at the emergency vet.
Yesterday after the autoX, Dan and I went by and visited to see how my brother and Mack were fairing. Well, Mack has always loved it when I visit because I always shower him with love and kind of push Bo out of the way. Bo always got the attention and Mack needed love too. I knew that, so Mack was always my favorite. Mack loves Dan too...goes over and kisses and rolls over to show his belly....just a loving dog.
He looks beat up, but not half as bad as I had expected. He's eating and on pain meds and anti-biotics, but walking, waging his tail and loving again. Bo is being punished and being kept in his kennel when not being fed etc. Per Veterinary orders.
I am adopting Mack. He'll be coming to stay with Dan and I this Thursday afternoon. I couldn't take him sooner because he needs to go to the vet and I need to "baby proof" my house again. He is crate trained and gonna be spoiled rotten!
I hope to post pics when he gets to the house on Thursday, so you'll all have to wait until then, but it will be so nice to have life in the house again. I still miss Rajah and didn't think I could handle having a dog back in the house yet, but Mack is already a part of the family and always welcome. so, I'll hope that you'll all say hi to our newest member of the TF family.
