I got an e-mail from Citi Bank the other day, telling me that there had been a lot of fraud perpetrated against their customers, card holders, etc. They explained that they wanted me to verify some suspicious purchases that appeared on my account.
I didn't respond right away, & I thought, "Why did Citi Bank contact me via e-mail? Come to think of it, how do they even know I had e-mail address, and how do they know the address? I called Citibank customer service, (the 800 # on the back of the credit card), and they told me it was a fraud. It's an identy theft scam.
The e-mail looked very official, using the Citiback/Citicorp logo, and address, etc. It was very well done. When you respond to the e-mail, they try to get credit card #, account #, mother's maiden name, your address, phone, etc. I'm just writing this to warn others, who may have gotten something like this.
