dammit this sucks i wish i had a zetec and i still like the spi. the merc mytique has a zetec?? my friend gives me shit cuz my car doesnt have one. oh well the spi still is killer in my book if only a zetec swap were easier. some day i will go for it but until then i am spi power
Im doing a zetec swap right now, it isnt that hard. you only need a few key pieces to make it work. you can do it for about 2K$. If thats what you really want, go for it. Im doing it for turbo.
Talk to Gerry Dedonis at Kansas racing products about a brand new surplus zetec. TELL HIM PATRICK ONGSTAD SENT YOU!!! cause he promised to hook me up for referals. I am told you will need to replace the oil pan and windage tray because these zetecs are for escape/tributes. I have not confirmed this yet but I will let you know. they are 1k bucks plus 225 shipping. totally complete motors minus ECU, alternator, and starter. Haines motorsports has the transmissions (manual) sells for about 500 and he will load an LSD for another 500. you will need a zetec alternator, a starter FOR A MANUAL (if you already are manual, you can use your starter), and a manual zetec ECU. ECU will have to be flashed by a dealer unless you get the pats transponder and keys also.
You will also need a zetec flexpipe, cat or orp, and clutch/pressure plate/throwout bearing, shifter base, shifter, and shift cables. (also clutch pedal and fluid pipe if you are auto now)
when assembling, make sure you have an engine set up for manual. other wise you will have to change the crank sensor mounting block and flywheel.
If you are auto and want to stay that way, you can use the same transmission and hardware. (make sure engine is set up for auto)
