Well, as terrible as it may seem to say, such is life since about 1996 when they went to the ODB II standard and started using pre and post cat O2 sensors.

Your pre-cat sensor should be okay.  For grins and giggles you could try swapping them and see if the problem follows the sensor.  If it does then you know its not the cat, if it doest then my money is on the cat.

Im not sure about our vehicles, but on higher end vehicles the ECU will run a test on the O2 Sensor itself and they are usually better telling you specifically if its the Cat or the O2 Sensor.  I have a scan tool that reads basic ECU info, but if you knew of someone with an 'enhanced' data scan tool they may be able to tell you more specifically where the trouble is, but again, Im leaning to the cat.  But try swapping the O2 sensors around just to make sure the pre-cat sensor isnt out in left field somewhere and throwing things off course.

ok now this pisses me off. i reset my CEL, it stays off. even for 200 miles. okay heres the thing now. I turn my car off. when i go back to drive it the light stays off until five minutes later it turns on again. the stupid thing says its BOTH O2 sensors which is bullshit cuz i replaced them. i dunno whats going on but my car works fine so i'm ignoring it for the moment

probably already told this to you guys but its bugging me considering BOTH O2 sensors are brand spanking new.

Well I had teh same thing happen to me.  Pull the post cat O2 sensor and see if there are Shards of ceramic or metal there.....if so your Cat shit the bed and you need a new one.   OEM replacment is 650 Dollars, SHould be free if 50,000 miles or 5 years hasnt been met....if your car is older than that  Random Technologies sells an awesome Aftermarket replcemetn for only $315 Bucks ......Its is the only direct bolt on aftermarket out there.....Walker doesnt even make one...NAPA, VIP , Autozone cant get you one......Random or OEM........Good luck thats all I know about that.......
