ok now dont ignore my other topic but what are the best spi upgrades. i plan on adding cold air intake, offroad pipe, ecu, new headers, and thats all i can thnk of right now. oh and i hear that the offroad pipe replaces the cat which makes the engine light go off. how would i remedy this? thats about it for now
I was gonna be funny and say... a Zetec, but that just seems mean. And frankly, have to show some love to the guys who mod the SPI...TXFO has a pretty mean SPI I believe.
yeah, Its a little quick. faster than most zetecs. 134/136 at the wheels.
best things you can do after the obligatory intake and exhaust is to pull the head and get it port, polish, and milled. I raised my compression to 10.3:1. Get the valves hogged out as big as you can (mine are 1mm larger) and then get yourself a bigger camshaft and new double spring valvetrain. (some have tried the stage 1 camshaft without the new valvetrain but all ended up with coil bind despite what EFP says)
If you want to go bigger, Get a 15$ turbo bracket from JGS, and pick up a T3 turbo or anotehr of your liking. Get the PRO-M fuel pump driver module, adapt the rail to take zetec injectors, and have a custom burn chip to pull timing. Frankly, a conservative nitrous program chip should do it.
wow, that's what you've got to the ground huh? Now have you done any tranny work? Did you start out with an ATX or an IB5 MTX? If the IB5 how do you like that?
I have the IB5 with no upgrades. I had a 4.06 final drive fabricated but not installed yet. I bought the car with the manny. Problems are the final drive is too small, and first is especially short. It was definately geared for economy. The SPI uses a set of seconday intake butterflies to raise torque at lower RPMs. It seems the tranny was geared to stay in the lows. the IMRC (Intake manifold runner corntrol.) helps make running low RPM more tolerable. However, when you start making the engine stronger the tranny fights you all the way. New gears would be awesome. I am thinking of mating the MTX-75 on the SPI. Research indicates it will bolt right up. Only one way to find out.
so i still dont have a car yet but i was lookin around and came upon some page saying if you remove some resonator thing from the air box you'll get better airflow. so what is that thing for anyway? i'd almost rather go for one of those 35 dollar intakes on ebay insted of removing that. i just want to know what i should do to start my car upgrade for the ultimate spi. (once i get it fixed up)
