how many miles does it have on it? I've seen them on ebay for insanely cheap with decent mileage (usually a few hundred). How did your motor blow?

well i just bought an engine on ebay for like 400 bucks. the shop wanted 2100 for a used one w/ like 16000 mi on it. i said screw that and went on ebay. so now all that needs to be done is intallation which they say is 1350 so hopefully i can get it covered by the months end which i think i should be able to do. well its crappy but i want my focus back bad. feel free to comment as needed

Just do it yourself. spend the money on an impact gun and compressor. 300 vs 1350. couple hundred is very normal for SPI engines on ebay. What likely happened if you ran out of coolent and overheated is that your valve seals crumbled and ate up the pistons, cycled through the EGR, and ate up the pistons some more. Overheating the SPI is a MAJOR no-no.

well i would do it myself, but wouldn't i need an engine hoist and other things like that. i think im just gonna have it shipped to the shop and have them put it in. it's still cheaper than the 2100 they wanted for a used spi

I'd keep the old one, even if just for parts.  Or you could always rebuild it and try to sell it.

If you keep the engine, I'll buy some parts off you.

Keep the old engine, and if the block and head are still good, do a monster SPI buildup. Thats what I want to do if my zetec ever dies. And thats what I would do if I was in your shoes.

I'd say part it out. People are always looking for small parts here and there. Slap some on ebay and whatever doesn't sell, trash it. I'm all for keeping extra parts cause you never know what you'll need in the future but lets be serious really, unless you have somewhere to put it your just going to have one big ass paper weight taking up a lot of space and getting in the way.

well, If the valve seals crumbled, the head and pastons are shot. you should be able to use the pistons to give to a company to make you new stronger ones though. You can do the same with the rods and wrist pins. You should be able to sell the water pump and oil pump very easily. (send me a price) If you keep the block, you could have it bored out for larger displacement and then couple it with the new guts you are gonna have made.
