Okay, now i seriously am thinking about a repairable simply because i have all the parts and if the damage isnt too terribly bad i could just use parts off my car to fix it or vice versa if the damage is real bad. but i mean i'd have a new set of wheels which say =$500, trans=$500, zetec with all parts and keys=$1500, plus all body parts and inerior, power locks i can xfer to my lx, all that good stuff. one snag that i dunno about though is if i need to register a repairable if i'm using it for parts and if i need to insure it, because then it wouldn't be worth going that route. Dammit how come i didn't know more about the foci before looking at an LX????? oh well, if worst comes to worst i keep the spi and beef it up, cept for the fact that all the internal parts are friggin expensive. well folks, throw some feedback at me and tell me what you think. i definatly want to upgrade to a 5spd cuz auto sux balls. well peace out and drive safe.

as long as you dont drive the donor car on the street, you dont have to register or insure it.

I've often thought about buying a wrecked hatch and mining it for parts, if I had a place to store it for free, I would probablly do that.

You need to be carefull with having a donor car in some states. In parts of Mass. for example you are not allowed to have an unregistered car in your yard more than X amount of days(of course what the neibghors don't see isn't always illegal). Just know the laws and the ways around it. If you do have that law than you will have a week or so to pull parts and than get the rest hauled off.

Other than that it sounds like a plan. You may want to get intouch with your or some insurance companies and see if there have been any recent wrecks or if they can offer you a buy-back(on a future wreck) after the current owner passes up on buy-back.

so basically i could keep it in a garage or somewhere out of view and registration would not be required? just need to find some repairables then. and if i do this depending on the damage on the donor car i may just transfer parts from my current car or the other way around. damage depending that is

All states have their own laws like the other's have already said. You just have to worry about the car that's actually going to be moving on the road. Keeping it out of site is a good idea. If it's anything like Oregon's laws it's actually illegal to park any non-moving vehicle on grass (ie. lawn, backyard, etc.) But what they don't know can't possibly hurt you. Just as long as you don't change your mind half-way into this and decide to drive the donor car instead. Then you would have to get it covered, and tagged. Good luck with this, it's something I've always wanted to do but never did have enough money or anywhere to put a donor
