Has anyone else with a SPI 5 speed found it surging or bogging when the AC is on?

The dealer says it is normal and  maybe it is, since this 2003 and my old 2001 both did it. Or maybe my dealer is lazy and there is a real fix out there.

I beleve it is normal. My 01 Zetec does it and so does Chelly's 02..

I while back I tries a vacume reducer and it helped a but but I beleve it was just a bandaid. It was a short tube that goes to a silver canister dehind th eright side of the valve cover. But remember it was on a DOHC Zetec

The engine always loses power witht he A/C on. what I typically find is that the engine bogs until the IMRC activates and then it frees up all of the sudden like a surge. I think what it is is the engine finally makes enough torque to overcome the drag. The IMRC is timed az little late IMO, and and its a very sudden opening so it may feel like a surge. Any idea what RPM you are feeling the surging?

No tach, but it hesitates whenever I accelerate in any gear, or surges at a steady speed of 30mph in third or 60 in fifth.

When you accelerate aggresively with the air on, the compressor turns off to allow you more power. Thats probablly what the surging is.  It could also be the IMRC opening. those speeds sound about right for the secondarys.
