I think so. You can't just plug in the 2 extra gauges that come on the svt tho but the cluster would work? I think?? I'm actually really not sure sorry. I've never heard anyone say they've done this.

well i have a Zetec cluster on the way (got it off ebay for like 65$) I hope it installs easy. 65$ is a great price considering the new ones are $300 also a fun fact: The new zetec clusters cost the same as a new SVT cluster even though the SVT one has white face gauges and a higher tach/speedo!

Ill post my results with the Zetec cluster when I get it in!

You may have to take it to for to have the mileage adjusted to what the actual mileage on the car is. There was a huge debate over whether of not you could just plug in the new gauge and have the current mileage shown from the computer or if the new gauge keeps the mileage from the old car. There never was a straight answer to this.

If you could let us know what your car is reading for mileage now, what the new cluster supposedly has on it (if known) and what the new cluster reads when installed into your car I know know allot of ppl will be appreciative. :D:D

From what I got from 2 dealers - there is no more real debate here.  You MUST take the cluster to a dealership and have them correct the milage.  It is fraud if you do not have that done and sell the car with the SVT guage cluster with the wrong milage on it.

Well i put the ZETEC cluster in today and it works like a charm ...its easy to put in (plug and play)

Also i didnt have to change my miledge because it came up as the same exact miledge. I think its stored in the ECU not to cluster

Ya thats what I thought but than ppl were saying it is stored in both locations but the speedo supersedes the ECU....

with todays technology and the threat of milage tampering you would think that all new cars with digital milage on speedo would put the memory in the ECU and not the cluster that can easily be changed out.... But it looks as if Ford has supprisingly done it the right way.

What year is your car. Just so we know at least that year has it stored in the ECU..

Glad to hear it worked....

Also just thought of this. As for the SVT cluster, it reads higher on the MPH so the guage may be off if installed into a regular focus.... Maybe.....

If I were to change out my guage cluster from my stock Zetec w/ Tach to an SVT - I would have to have mine re-programmed.  I have a 2002 ZX3 built in Sept. 2001.

As I have said, I had 2 dealers confirm with me that the information in the cluster of my vehicle in particular, must be updated if I change them.

Fair warning...If anyone else choses to do this, contact your dealer to be sure yours will be a plug and play...there is a ton of debate on this issue and I can guaranty that Ford changed all of this around whenever they felt like it.  Example, my wiring in my 2002 is VERY different than the 2000 & 2001.  They change a whole lot about it.  I have no doubt they may have changed it again since then.

IF you used an SVT gauge cluster, youd have to get the SVT cluster trim too, because of the 2 extra gauges where the coin holder is.

This topic is a bit old, but I wanted to reopen it due to some lacking evidence for new foci. I have a 2003 Focus Sedan (not sure if it's LX or not, cause it doesn't have the badge... just base i guess). But I was wondering to add the tach to my dash. I wanted to get the indiglo gauge cluster, but I don't want to install it and then find out that i have to goto the dealership to get my mileage changed (which i've heard is quite a bit of money). Does anyone know for sure if the mileage is stored in the ECU or in the cluster for the 2003 Ford Focus? Any and all help would be very appreciated, because this is my first mod to my lovely Focus.... I love my baby.

Thanks,

Dell :dude:

PS: Due to my lack of intelligence, does "cluster" mean the whole dash part, or just the gauge face plate?? Simplified question: Do I need that huge thing that has all the lights anw hat not or can I just order, say, a MAC White Gauge Face or an Indiglo one, and swap it out over the other one?? Maybe it's an easy question, but any help would be great.

I don't know for sure where the milage is stored anymore. I've never done it myself so while I have my theories I'm not going to bother saying I know for sure. But to answer your other question, you need a whole new cluster not just an overlaying gauge face.

as far as I know, the mileage is stored in the cluster ROM.

the SVT cluster plugs right in as far as I know. the other two gauges are a seperate piece. you can wire them in but It hink they are tied to the RPM and not to what they actually are supposed to be reading. ricer gauges.

Ford made wiring cahnges but it should not affect the cluster. unless the actual pin out of the ECU has changed or the pin in on the cluster than its all just direct feed off the the ECU. IMO, I see no reason ford or the cluster maker would want to change the pin in. I work at the supplier of the EEC-V and I can tell yout hat a pin out change would require a major retooling. basically a whole new PCB, and thats a BIG job.

K, I'll visit the nearest junkyard and see if there are any totalled Foci. I really want that RPM gauge in my car, just for performance reasons and what exactly my car is doing. Only having the speedo is kind of a pain. Anyway, thanks
