You can get an excort GT header off of 88 - 91, requires minor fabrication.  it is a full header too..  If you want I can find you one and send it to you, but you should try your local junkyards first.

http://www.mcnewsautomotive.com has two shorty headers the Ford Racing one which is basically the JBA header, and the MAC shorty.

http://www.newedgeperformance.com has the JBA shorty header.

Ok.

I did some quick reading on another board and it looks like you have 2 options.

1) The Escort 86-90 GT Header

2) Pace Stetter.

Oftion 1 requires modification to the header (Cutting out about 6" from the bottom and rewelding from what I read) Take a look at these pics I found.
http://www.imagestation.com/member/join_signin_prompt.html?album_id=4287148099&rf=&ru=%2Falbum%2F%3Fid%3D4287148099

Option 2 is said not to be a good header and personaly I don't trust there cat backs. And how good can a JC Whitney $120 header really be???

hey thanks again. i think i will go with your word on the JC witney header. a $120 header can't be very effective. i am still looking around for the escort gt header. this is a stupid question, but if i do use the gt header it will delete the cat. converter. Right? or will i have to buy one because i do not want a cat. converter.

It looks like that guy just removed it.

I do know there is a fitment/space issue with the tranny or somthing like that from what I read.

If needbe you could always put a aftermarket cat further down the line. Trucks and such have there cat under the driver/passenger feet just as the piping straightens out after leaving the engine compartment.

Yes. Keep us informed.

Do you have a part number for the header?? Just wondering because I can put it in the list of part numbers and with the company that makes it. So that in the future peopel know where they can get one without tons of modification and searching for old parts. Was this a one time as ordered item or do you think they will have a few extra on the shelf?

i am at it again. i returned the wrong header, and they gave me my money back. so it is not so bad. I went to escortfocus.com  and they are selling an SPI  header. so i ordered it. i have not recieved it to make sure it is valid, but it looks correct. there is a problem though. the 90 degree piece that hooks up race headers to the exhauste is not included. they do not offer or make it for sale. so i have to find one or make one. nothing is never as good as it seems.

i went to escortfocusperformance.com i ordered their 4-2-1 race header. i installed it on my car. it took the cat converter out. the only problem is that there is no piece to hook it up to your exhauste. so i took the bend from the cat. and cut and welded a few times to get it correct. that mod gave me an additional 12 horses. you can feel the difference.

Cool. I bet it's loud as hell now, unless you got the resignator with the cat back. Speaking of, what do you have for a cat back? I'm running the FC race header, FC flex pipe, and Magnaflow cat back with no resignator and it's way too loud. I noticed a major increase  in third gear pull. I think the low range actually suffered a little. But I got other goodies that make up for it. LOL

i have no resonator. just straight out. it brings a lot of attention. i like it. yeah i noticed the third gear pull too. and as you my low end suffered. so i put in an adjustable cam and an underdrive pulley. now my car is quick.

i am not sure what you mean by tuned. i did have my cam advanced 3 degrees. it gives me better bottom end , but does not take away from my top end too much.

Did you bring the car to someone to get "tuned" or did you just adjust the cam sproket 3 degrees? Did you get it dyno'ed? I don't think I have ever seen a dyno sheet from a SPI. I'm just curious.
