so i just got my focus back yesterday and i drove it a bit. some times it lacks power when i hit the gas. i dont think it is as responsive as it sed to be. for example, i hit the gas but it doesnt rev or especially when i stop at a light etc. the engine kind of coughs a little and sometimes kills. i thought it might have been the trans but it shifts fine. i think it might be somethiing to do with the fuel system. can someone diagnose this for me? thanx alot for any help at all

some focuses have this problem.  I know that mine sometimes bogs down almost to the point of crapping out sometimes from a dead stop, I know I've heard a bunch of other people talk about the same problem, it doesn't do it all the time but it does do it.

yeah so like an hour ago i was driving and my check engine lite comes on. so i pull over to the side of the road. the cops ask me whats wrong i tell em. so now i dunno what the hell is up. i think the guys who put my engine in did a crappy job. i dunno my friend tells me i should take it back there but since i bought the engine off ebay they might pull some bull on me and say there was no warranty or whatever but i'm pretty sure the engine is fine they just didnt do quality control. i dont want to deal with them anymore really. i have to get alignment done neways so im gonna take it to this place my friend recommends and have them do the align. and a diagnostics. i'll just ask whats up w/ my engine and see how much or probably do it myself w/ some friends of mine. dammit this kinda sux. so nothing was smoking the engine wasnt overheating everything seemed ok. is it safe to drive or not? what should i do?

Let us/me know when you find out what the code for the CEL is.

You can go to Auto Zone and have it read for free.

Have you checked the fuel filter? Something may be in there after the work that you've had done.

I forget what year car you have. If it is 03 and newer the lower side panels are part of the body. If its a 00-02 that you will have black plastic lower side panels that can come off.

As for the fower issue and the engine light. Might be DPFE. That ting will cause stumbeling and when it finally goes the CEL will come on and the car will run really ruff and you will be getting really crappy gas milage, possibly in the 15-20 PMG range. The DPFE isa known "goes bad often" part.

Just a note so you all don't freak out when you see your CEL light go on. First thing you should check is your fuel cap.  If you had recently re-fueled, you may have not put the cap on exactly as it should go and there may be a vapor leak.  Try that first and let it go for about 100 miles.

the stammering/hesitation etc...could be the DPFE  they are junk on all vehicles, not just ford, not just the focus.  It is like the brake issue - it is an industry wide problem.  So long as you are in warranty (many have had theirs extended) this will be covered under a TSB/Extended warranty program being offered by Ford.  Please check our thread that refers to all of the recalls and TSB's out on your vehicle.  It is a great reference tool.

Autozone is a great place to have codes read...free and simple.  So long as you have someone who knows what they are doing.  Get the codes and some may be able to give you the definition of the codes and if you can't get that from them, bring it to us and we'll help you out.  Heck, you can also call a dealership and ask them over the phone what the codes mean.

Don't freak out all...just go with it and try to figure out the problem...then freak out :P

The DPFE ia part of the emmisions system. It was the worst in the 2000 models. Yet it has not gotten much better.

Should be about $70 from dealer and yes you can replace it once you have located it. It should be behind the right hand side of the motor probably mounted on the fire wall.

As for the side skirts. Are the black plastic ones already taken off????

as I am not fluent on code - what was the definition of each here?

Do you have a picture of your car's trim that you are talking about?  There are not foci I know of, that have metal trim other than the rear spoiler.

Do you have an aftermarket air intake??? The MAFS is on the sube going from the stock air box to the middle rear of the motor. This either dirty, broken, or missing if you have an aftermarket air intake and forgot to swap it over or plug it in.

don't know the 200 code

Random misfire. Could be bad pligs or wires. check plugs and gap. check wires, make sure all connections are tight. It could also have been a single misfire to cause the code, a sort of hickup in the motor.

EGR flow. could be DPFE but I think it has its own code. Could also be caused my MAFS problem or this could be causinf MAFS problem.

I'm not an expert here but I know how things kinda work. I know just enough to be dangerous :D
