well i need a new coil and wires so i figured why not go aftermarket right now? theres an accel coil that looks good to me and focussport wires that look decent as well. what your opinion? also are coils vehicle specific or does one coil cover more than one vehicle application. just wondering i guess. thanx for all the info on my last topic and keep it up!:D

you have to use magnacore wires if you get an aftermarket coil. This is what I have heard anyway I don't know from person experience. But the magnacore are the only ones that are meant for high voltage. Anything else might not be able to handle it.

as for the coil it self you can use any meant for the zetec with minor modifications. Either you have to get washers to use as spacers when your mounting it in place of your old one or you can get the mounting piece from a zetec and use it instead. Going with the zetec piece means you have to make the plug-in harness longer to reach.

they don't make screamin demon wires for the focus spi engine. But again magncore wires will work in its place.

I've heard the focus sport wires are good but won't work with an aftermarket coil.  The wires weren't meant to handle the higher current. Again this is based on rumor I don't own them to tell you different. I think TXFO has a set but no aftermaket coil so I'll wait for him to give you what he thinks. But that is the infromation I found when doing the reseach myself.

As for the plugs I know you have to regap to a larger size for the zetec but since the spi is already set to a larger stock gap I don't know. Sorry.

I'm not sure that you can, and from what I've heard the Screamin' Demon coil is designed to ONLY fit the screamin' demon wires.  At least I know this is so for the Zetec Application.

wait a sec, maxx said that the magnacore wires work. i think from what he told me any wires will work but only the livewires that come with it and the magnacore wires will handle the extra current that the screamin demon puts out. this is what i understood. and IF the screamin demon does only work with the livewires, plz recommend me another similarly priced coil that i can use with the magnacores

I could have sworn that the connectors on the coils where larger and hence the reason that others wouldn't fit onto the coil.  I'll see what I can find out.

thanx guys. if the wires dont work w/ the screamin deamon, just recommend me another similarly priced coil asap plz!!! hopefully MSD is as reasonable as screamin demon and i really dont know any other brands off hand.

oh yeah, will i need longer bolts/screws to fit it on if i use spacers?

magnecore wires will work with the deamon pack. focus sport wires dont work on high power coils. I first had the MSD (EFP rebadge) blaster coil. that went out so Ibought the MSD DIS-2 system. It worked very well and allowed me to adjust the dwell. I used that on my turbo motor and ended up selling it to the junk dealer that hauled off the blown motor. Now I just have the stock coil with FS wires and denso iridium plugs. IMO, the high power coils are more show than go. Smooths out the idle but I doubt you'll see any extra power on a stock motor.

Oh, if you want, get a coil brakcet from a 97 escort CVH. It bolts right up and it points the coil up instead of out. Just a nice housecleaning touch.

thats the MSD coil, rebadged as EFP. I dont think the blaster coil works. however, the DIS-2 works.

I dont think you need longer bolts. stock should be fine. You can buy the deamon coil without the live wires. In fact, try to avoid live wires.

The DIS-2 isnt a coil, its a system. It controls the the dwell of the ignition.
