On a Zetec its just below the intake manifold on the drivers side. Don't know about the SPI motor.

if you stand in front of the car facing the motor it sticks out of the back of the valve cover on the right side.it has a rubber 90 deg elbow on it that turns down and passes under the air intake tube.pull the 90 off and you will see the plastic nipple of the pcv valve sticking out Be careful taking it out, you must turn it<do not pull it >it turns about half a turn then pulls out.also check that 90 deg elbow,it tends to weaken and collapse and would then need replaced(it's a dealer item and you have to buy the entire tube which goes down the backside of the engine and into another (smaller 90 deg elbow). The pcv valve is also a dealer item,at least it was a couple years ago.
