i read about this swab and now i cant find it!! i saw two ways of doing it. one was remove that thing all together, the other involved a toggle switch. i'd like to do this but i dont know where to look!

also, i love the spi, i just wish there were more parts to pimp it out. guess i'll just make do and do some custom mods. i'm actually thinking about modding the snorkle to add some type of ram air effect. also i'm not sure but i bet intake manifolds are hard to come by too. oh i long for a zetec someday but i love my spi. both would be nice. i bet an spi could kick a sohc neons ass........maybe:)

also i might just put on an escort gt header. bettter than stock, right? i can use the fc offroad pipe too? i'm cheap and need some more power!!!! dammit i love the spi too much now to get a zetec. i love ghetto riggin shit.

And I've taken sohc civics every now and then. Never raced a neon before. We aren't THAT slow, we just have the slowest focus engine so we are constantly comparing ourselves to that.

Our stock header is junk. I've got the fc short header and it's much nicer

The swab mod? You'll be running your car harder but this is an old thing and people are still running around just fine.

all the swab does is open the secondary intake ports all the time. Usually they open at 3K or so. For my taste, the IMRC should open at 2k or so. It does that on my car but thats because I reflashed the ECU. There are numerous threads on the jet (most of them mine) that describe how to built a module to time your own IMRC and other tricks like activation lights and kickdown switches.

The SWAB will not hurt your engine in any way shape or form.

there is.

unbolt the IMRC actuator. Turn the armature toward you and hold it in place with a small spring or some wire. get some washers to act as spacers between the IMRC motor and the manifold. Bolt it back down so that it dosent actually touch the armature. Now the IMRC is open all the time. you will lose some very low end power but you will notice the motor come to life abit earlier.

oh yeah. for the ram air thing? Get yourself a charge tube from an escort or festiva RS. you can find them on ebay.uk.  I got one for about 50 bucks. The engine is very very similer to the SPI and the charge tube is flatened a bit so that it will go from the tb OVER the valve cover, and straight out the front. Its supposed to mount to the turbo but its easily adaptable to a home made filter box that can mate to a hole in the hood. I have one built but not installed. I am waiting on a scrap hood to use.

actually for the ram air thing i was thinking of making a custom snorkle with a bigger tube and a really wide intake mouth, but if i could use both it wouild be doubly good

Does anyone have a pic of the swab mod... (or even the IMRC actuator...)

i wanna do this mod, but i am pretty mechanically inept.  and if that isnt enough, i am a visual learner, so the how to is jibberish to me without pics...  :(

i want to do this mod, but i dont want to screw something up.

The link I posted has pictures. Just read it over carefully and give it a try. As long as your careful you can always undo it. Sometimes it just takes guts to give things a try. Believe me, I know what it's like. I didn't even know what a socket wrench was when I first started. You'll be surprised how fast you can pick up on stuff when your doing it yourself.

The pictures weren't showing because they are hosted on Imagestation. :(  I managed to get them to show one by one, so I put the How-to on the main site. :)

Here is the link http://www.teamfocus.us/swabhowto.htm

Oh ha sorry I forget sometimes that I'm one of the few people that can see those pictures. Imagestation pictures always seem to work for me.

I can't see how you could screw it up that bad Doc. If you can just print out the how- to and do what you see. It should be a snap.

do not do this mod. http://www.focusfanatics.com/forum/showthread.php?s=&threadid=23445&highlight=swab

What happens is that when your at wide open throttle your butterflies are actually almost closed. Which is bad. The creator himself has adviced not to do the SWAB mod ne more.

you can still do the mod, just dont lock the armature over as far. how-to is a little out of date.
