Which side is the leak on? Its most likely going to be a fitting. Could be the bung is open on the radiator. Hose might have split from the overflow tank. Or else the thermostat housing is leaking. Thats a pretty common issue.
yeah just ignore my other crappy topics, keep it here. the leaks arent coming from beneath the radaitor so im thinking may be the therm housing. hell i'll get a napa gold therm and put it on. looks like im biking to work again. only bad thing is i need car ramps and i'm f'ing poor now
Unless the pump housing is leaking, Im sure its just a hose or seal. you can check the pump by unhooking the heater hose and starting the car. if water shoots out then the pump is working. You need to figure out what side of the car is leaking. On the bottom left side of the radiator is a plastic nut. thats the radiator bung. make sure thats closed. Just under the col pack is the thermostat housing. that is the likely culprit. verify that it isnt leaking there. On the passenger side of the car is the overflow tank and the pump. pump is under the timing cover. I had a tank explode on me once so check for pressure. and cracks. It might also be a leaking radiator. Any radiator shop can do apressure test on your radiator. your last engine died from overheating and now you notice a coolent leak. The only parts remaining from your last engine are the radiator and hoses. It could be a bum radiator or maybe the tech damaged a hose or fitting during the job. hope this helps.
hey thanx. i actually think its the therm. housing cause thats where the general area of the leak was. thanks alot man! just neeed to figure out how to fix it now
remove the coil pack and set it aside with wires intact. the thermostat housing is right underneath. It is held in by three or four bolts. When you take it off, you will see the thermostat in the center and a small rubber ring around the perimeter of the housing. thats the seal. I am told that there is a ford part for just the ring. it might take some heavy searching to get a part number though. Otherwise you have to buy another housing. For a cheap fix, get a tube of RTV and run a bead around the ring. reinstall the housing and wait for the RTV to set before you run the car.
thanx man. i hope thats where the leak was at, well when i last filled up w/ coolant and it leaked, thats where the general area of the leak was anyway. so i hope i can get it fixed up soon. thanx for the walkthrough too. very helpful. i'll let u know when i get 'er fixed up. can i get a new seal with a new thermostat? i hear thermostats are fairly cheap.
The seal is a part of the housing and not part of the thermostat. the stat itself has a rubber ring but thats not the leaky part. The stat is 8 bucks or so from ford. The only aftermarket one I found had a higher temp and who the hell would want THAT?
