I am currently looking into getting a ported head for my car....I am looking at toms focus-power.com and the one from focust sport...toms comes with over sized valves and i dont believe the focus sport one does..any suggestions....also focus sport claims 30-50hp gains...this seems a bit unrealistic any one have realife gains to report....if i remember right TXFO you have ported your head on the spi...what kind of noticable gains did you get from that?....im leaning towards toms but am open to suggestions...my mechanic suggested i could send my head away to a shop in mosouri ..he says its the best around and this guy did the heads on his drag car...he owns a 3.5 second 1/8th mile corvette...thanks to all....

I would recommend Tom's ported head.  Bigger valves are very important to help with the flow into and out of the head.

The only other head on the market with bigger valves is the Ford Racing Head.  I have that one and it is very nice.

The other thing to think about is if you want to raise the compression ratio while your at it.  The reason FS gets that much power is because they mill the head.

From Tom you can get a p&p head with larger valves, have him raise the compression ratio, and set it up so you can just drop it in and go.

Send him a email and see what he can do for you.

when we used to mill the heads down on the old 2300's we had to use adjustable cam pulley to compensate for the decrease in height....does the zetec require special pulleys if the head is milled down?....

I don't beleive so.  The amount taken off is very small and can be compensated for by the belt tensioner.

I ported my SPI head and raised the compression to 11:1 picked up about 20 hp from that.

What's the name of the place in Missouri that he told you to send it too and where is it?  I'd like to know of a good place to have work like that done for future reference.
