after I get a block honed, can I use the standard rings or do I need a larger set. I plan on honing and blueprinting the block and then installing JE 9:1 pistons and eagle rods.

did you know crower sells titanium rods for 479$ EACH?! holy crap!

Honing doesn't remove much material...it just trues and smooths the hole.  My guess would be that the stock rings would be fine since you aren't taking that much off.

Are you putting in the 9.0:1 pistons and rods before you put the engine in?

If so you are going to be able to run alot of boost.

You should be fine with the rings that come with the JE pistons.  Also the Crower billet rods are strong than the Eagle ones, if you plan on running ALOT of boost.

Oh yeah! I knew there was a reason I don't have them.

Mr. V - the titanium rods are the ultra top of the line stuff. who the hell would put them in a zetec is beyond me.

ZX3 - the engine is going to be built before it goes in so yeah, the pistons and rods will be installed from day one. I know the crowers are tougher but I dont plan on running insane levels of boost, I just want something reliable.

Check your numbers closely. Most "standard" JE pistons are made at .007 oversize since most ppl won't put em in a new block, they'll go .030 over. I had a bad situation talking to all the parts places about the parts and planning before I actually got the parts in hand. The block was standard bore, the je pistons were .007 and they no fit. Block back to machine shop AGAIN :(

The stock pistons fit in my brand new block, but the jes don't.  Ford racing told me the combo would work, my machine shop told me it'd work. guess I should have had all the parts in hand to measure/compare before getting all the block work done. :X

so the JEs are always .007 over or does the size vary some?

dammit, the point of a new engine was not having to machine the block.:( oh well, gotta get it worked on anyway to fit the billet main caps.

I'm sure you can special order them in oem sizing, I've never seen the part number tho. I think they bet on most ppl re-using the stock block over and having to got .030 over. Boring isnt much money at all, my machine shop only charges about 50 bucks, main caps/linebore is about 250ish. I opted against the billet caps, we had a set but I am not going to use them. I already have my pistons, and I gapped the rings out big for a hot nitrous shot... then figured out the block problem and now i have to send my prepped/painted  block back to the shop. :( Not to mention i gotta buy new set of rings too. nothing works for me. haha

haha, that's one of the good and bad parts of having several cars going at once... There's always another motor to put parts into, and there's always a spare set of something somewhere. Sorry, talk to tony d at newedge, last time I spoke to him I think he had some. Tell him I said hi. ;)
