so i decided to go and buy 4 motorcraft plugs from the dealer and then gap them precisely to .65 on ALL of the plugs.

I go out and start with one at a time and replace the plugs.

After replacing all of them, I start my car and it bogs and sounds like a beat up old car ready to cut off.

so i pull out for a sec and drive about two car lengths and it still did it.

boy did this make me mad !

I ended up putting the bosch platinums back in and what do you know, it starts up and idles like a dream.

Is it possible that the dealer gave me the wrong kind of plugs?

I know its not the gapping because I took the plugs to a local repair shop and they verified that all of them were EXACTLY .65.

other than thinking the dealer gave me the wrong set, im willing to bet that the motorcrafts just dont work with the screamin demon coil and wires?

I think the Focus is kind of a "sparkplug sensitive" car. I've read about a lot of different plugs being tried, but only a very select few actually working well.

I've also heard quite a lot about the Screamin Demon, but not very much of it was positive.

were the plugs the same length as the bosch plugs you had?

thats weird from what I've heard the bosch plugs are terrible in the focus, I've not heard anyone say good things about them.  They are just too hot for the focus.  Most people either stick with the stock motocrafts or use the NGK or Denso or autolite double platinums.  But everyone I've known that used the bosch ended up taking them out and going back to stock or with something else.  I've got the Autolite double platinums with FR wires, no coil though, it doesn't really make much of a difference in my book.

i meant that i have the autolite platinums...

i gapped them by gapping slowly up to the .65, so im almost 100% sure that i did not mess anything up.

after talking with a few others with the screamin demon coil and wires, they to said the motorcrafts gave them trouble in the focus.

ended up taking the motorcrafts back to the dealer and getting my money back...

guess i will stick to the autolite platinums for now...

I haven't had any probs with my motorcraft plugs that I installed with my screamin deamon coil. I used to have the bosch double plats. they were shit. Stay with the motorcraft ones. They work for me.

actually i talked directly to the guys that make the screamin demon coil and they told me specifically to NOT use the motorcraft plugs and to stick with the autolite platinums.

i have gotten a refund for the motorcraft plugs and am using my autolite platinums.. quite happy with it.

:)

I love my Screamin Demon Coil and wires, but Mr. V is correct in that using that set up seems to make the Focus a bit more sensative to the plug you use.  I dont know how many sets I went through before getting the NGK's.  They worked so I have stayed with them.

There's an article in the Fall release of Focus Fanatics regarding the Screaming Demon coil and wires. I don't remember anything about what brand of plugs were used.

thing with the bosch plugs. if you look at them side by side with another brand, they're about a 1/4 inch shorter. seems like they get shrouded somehow and foul easily.
tried motorcraft, not a good deal. went back to autolite double plats.

I believe the Focus Fanatics Article pointed towards the NGK's but those are little bit expensive for my taste! I am a satisfied user of the Autolite plats. They haven't let me down! Thinking of buy the Screaming Demon here soon to compliment my cam tuning!
