Somebody give me shout out. What is a good baseline for cam timing. And yes I realize all Focus' run differently, and there is no replacement for dyno Tuning. But while im over here serving my country My brother has taken apon himself to drop the cams in so I didn't have to pay anybody( I figured since he was going to NASCAR Tech he might as well get some good hands on).  Anyway with the cam gears set to 0 intake and 0 exhaust he says there is a tremendous low end pull all the way up to 4000 rpm where it just dies and wallows around in its own self pitty. He told me he can get to 100mph at part throttle though.  I was looking for a bit more high end on that though or else I'll have to change my whole driving style.  Does anybody have a good number I can use till I get back home and to the dyno( 3 pulls for $60)? :driv

This is what I have: CAI, UDP, 4-1 header, adjustable cam gears, and stage II crowers           :caution

-4 intake, 0 exhaust seems to be pretty popular.

oh you have stage 2. just look on the spec sheet and use an angle card to degree the cams to where crower says they should be.

I have the comp cams stage 2 and the tech for them told me that the cam is set for optimum performance at 0....he told me the degreeing was preset by the grind....does that make sense or is he fillin me full of bull.....i only say this thinking maybe the crowers are the same way....i dunno

baseline is always 0,0. That's all it can be. Ford zetec cams are notoriously very random on where they are put in. If you put in aftermarket cams, or even just cam gears, the ONLY place you can start is tdc and 0,0. One zetec can produce peak gains at +4,+6 and another can do it at -4,-6. There are enough variables in engine assembly that it's impossible to say one is better than another. First time we put cams in, we did the buttdyno for hours, "that feels better" etc, what we ended up with, when put on the dyno was 8 degrees off on one and 10 on the other from optimal. haha. Cam tuning is very tricky, tdc is the number one thing you have to make sure you get, proper tools are a must.

Just for comparison sake... Our first engine in the red car ended up optimal at -2,+6, then we crapped out a piston. Same head, same block, same cams one new piston, dyno showed optimal was +2,+6. New engine, same cams, diff head, we got -6,-5.

Good luck, cam tuning is a lot of fun
