I have a BBK 65mm TB on my car, and it sticks open at about 3k RPM. It sticks more in the cold weather then the warm weather. I'm getting a stock TB from FX3 for the winter hoping that I'll spin less because of the decreased throttle response. Now my question to you. Do you think it is a wise idea to soak the 65mm TB in oil for the winter in hopes of relieving ths sticking problem? I've already tried spraying different types of oil onto the TB, but nothing seems to work. I'm thinking that soaking it in some type of oil over the winter might help alleviate this problem, but I'm not sure if it will harm the aluminum on the TB. Anybody have an opinion on this? Any suggestions on which type of oil to use if I do it? Thanks in advance guys, it's greatly appreciated.

I've already played with the idle adjustment screw, and that didn't seem to help anything. When I got the TB, the guy I got it from caid that he had called BBk(edelbrock) and they said to sand the outer edge of the butterfly and that should solve the problem. Dan(fx3) tried this when it was on his car(he wanted to see if he would like a 65mm TB) and it only made the problem worse. If I just quickly hit the throttle when it is sticking the idle will go back down to normal )on most occations). This is why I'm thinking that if I soak the TB in oil for a longperiod of time that the oil might soak into the luminum and fix the problem.

you are sure its actually sticking or its hanging revs? there is an important difference. the hanging revs can be fixed with software. a sticky butterfly has to be adjusted this way: pull the plate closed hard and then try to open it. if it sticks, turn the stop screw some and repeat. if it sticks turn it some more. keep doing this untill pulling it closed hard no longer causes a stick.
No, it's definately sticking. It will "idle" a 3 grand all day long if I let it. I'll try what you said, but I've already played with it a ton. I guess we'll see what happens. Any opinion on soaking it just in case more adjustments don't do the trick?

if you can get the TB to keep from sticking when you "play with it" and it still idles that high, you have a leak somewhere. could be the IACV or a vacuum hose that fell off or broke.
No, it will idle normally, the TB is just sticking. All vac lines are in place as far as I know. I'll try to play with the adjustment screw today to see if that helps. So back to my original question. Does anybody think that if I soak the 65mm TB in oil over the winter if it will harm anything? Any suggestions on what type of oil to use? Thanks in advance everybody.

I dont think oil is going to fix it. using brake cleaner might or you might have to get a little more drastic and take a very fine grit sanding wheel and dremel the inside out a tad.
Alright. Thanks for the help all. I'm gonna try lightly sanding the outside of the butterfly to see it that helps anything. Dan already sanded some of it down lightly, but to no effect. Maybe a litte more sanding will do the trick. I just hope I don't ruin the TB.

I've not played with the bbk one yet, but have had a lot of exp with all the fc ones. High idle is caused 99% of the time by a vacuum leak like stated before. It's not necessarily a line off or a gasket failure, most of the time it's the gasket between the big bore and the idle bypass, if the gasket between the two leaks at all it'll cause high idle. It's a very thin gasket and often times pooches out when tightened down. I've made several new gaskets with material from a parts store, and left that part thicker intentionally, never had a problem since. Check it out, I'd bet that's the problem. I have had tb's stick too, but mostly from a big nitrous shot freezing it, nothing some good penetrating lube can't fix. good luck, post up if you're still having troubles
