i havebeen doing some research on this Performance Distributers' Focus Firepower Ignition consisting of the Screamin' Demon coil pack($59.95)and custom fit-10mm Livewires plugwires($85). It works on SVT or regular Zetec Foci. And when i say it works, Imean it really works!! The first step in this simple install is the removal of the plastic cover hiding the plug wires. I was a little concerned that much thicker Livewires might not fit under this cover, but that fear proved unfounded.Unlike the factory coil pack, the screamin' Demon is not numbered for plugwires,so common sence of the firing order needs to be in place. Before removing the coil disconnect its electrical harness.Four torx-headbolts secure the factory coil to its mounting bracket;these will not be re-used w/the Screamin Demon coil .There's no need to undo the plugwires from the coil, simply unbolt the coil and pull the plug wires off the deeply burried plugs. The factory wires are not compatable w/the screamin'demon which has much different terminal towers. The relative height of the mounting holes shows why the kits included longer bolts are required. The plugs should be opened up to 0.065 inch to take advantage of the coil packs hotter spark. This enhances complete combustion, which, according to the manufacturer, increases power and gas mileage, plus keeps the plugs cleaner. As always with alum. heads, some anti-seize compound on the plug threads is a good idea on reinsertion. After bolting the Screamin' Demon to the factory mounting holes,re-attach the coil pack wiring harness and snap on the new plug wires, which are clearly numbered. The Livewires have a glass braided heat sleeve good for up to 1,400 degrees, with a spiral wound core to prevent radio interference. The wires are blue, but their avalable in black, purple, red, and yellow. It would really be a shame to cover them with the plastic cover. I dont want to mislead anyone about my findings about the Screamin' demon coil , my findings on this coil were from Focus fanatic mag. I have friends who have installed this coil, hearing from their likes and dislikes about the coil they were pretty much all thumbs up.for the whole story on this ,it's the fall 2004 issue. This mag is a good source of info. The car they did the coil swap on was an SVT w/a Focus Central throttle body and underdrive pulleye, even the air filter was the factory air filter. The horsepower and torque both had meaningful gains all the way across the powerband. This means that for those of you w/forced induction the benefits would be even greater.
One note to people who plan on or do have this setup. Whenever you change plugs or do anything that that end of the wire must be removed, remove the wire from the coil first. the stress and bending will break the brass wire end inside the boot otherwise.
I know this firsthand and had to order another set of wires when i developed a missfire due to the end being broken. and its an absolute pita to diagnose this one...
Oh, and this is on a oosted svt
