mine started to smell, like a sweet burning smell. like heated antifreeze. For like a month prior. I couldnt find the smell but it seemed like it was coming from the alt. very weird. Then one day it went kaput. Since then, I've heard 3 other people describe this weird smell, and I said its the alt, they laughed at me, but 2 of em had the alt go out within a week. can't explain it

I would have never suspected the alternator with that kind of voltage output at idle. They generally are only two to thee volts over the batter voltage of 12.6

F*CKIN* SON OF A BITCH.....its up to 15 votls again output.......why is my alt fucked up again? anyone got any ideas? this is without a stereo system connected. could my screamin demon be doing this bullshit?

I thought it was normal for an alternator to put out that sort of voltage. Considering that even though it's a 12V system, I normally get more than 12V from just about everything I've hit a meter to.
I don't understand the problem. Alt is supposed to put out 14-15. I'd make a post crying if it was less than 12, then it needs to be replaced. I dunno.
