Does anyone know what the output voltage is on the OEM ignition coil. My guess with a spark plug gap of 1.3mm or 0.050" its probably around 35,000 volts but Im hoping someone knows the exact number.

Thank you TXFO. With it being that high, how in the world do aftermarket ignition coils help any? The highest I believe I have seen was around 45,000V. I dont know the voltage of the Screamin' Demon coil but I cant imagine it being much higher if at all.

I dont know for sure but I imagine it has to do with changing the capacative discharge. probablly just step up the windings in the 2nd stage too.
for an idea of how good the stock coil is when it works right, the cosworth engines as well as most of the biggest boost foci out there still use the stock DIS. aftermarket coils for the focus are just snake oil to me.
You know TXFO, Im begining to agree with you on that. I think the money would be better invested in some really good low resistance wires or going to a capacitive discharge. The ignition coil (inductive) has a very hard time keeping up the quality spark at the higher rpm ranges because of the rapidness of the firing. Adding in some capacitive ability would help that out as well as intensify the spark.
Im seriously considering adding some nology wires and their power cores. If it boosts up coil output by 50% that would be some serious spark, and their capacitive wires should add some nice boost in spark. If I can find some reasonable enough I may have to experiment with that a little. I'll keep the stock coil and just see how good it can get with it.
Ive got the Screamin' Demon coil still pulled off the car and Im not sure Im going to put it back on just yet. Im pretty sure I wont be using the Live Wires anytime soon. Well I say that, I dont have any plans right now to put them back on there, but that could change.
Im more interested in seeing if the Nology set up is what it says it is right now. 60,000 Volts would push the spark plug gap near the 2mm range which is an awful lot of spark kicking off that fuel mixture.
