Well, she's nearing 36k and will have her 3rd Birthday in September and she's been bogging down.
I've had my DPFE replaced and my TB.
I'm thinking I need to check the basics (fuel filter, air filter *clogging or desbris, fuel lines, plugs, wires)
Just for fun I threw some 89 fuel in the last time I filled and she didn't show a change.
When I'm "getting on it" to enter a highway to get to speed, I'm just not feeling the response I used to.
Could the insane humidity effect it if I check all of these things and cannot find anything? I'm not getting hesitation or cut out, but it is bogging when I try to open up the throttle.
Comments and suggestions are of course welcome and encouraged!

It could just be the car getting tired...it happens...might be a clutch/tranny part...as these things get older you'll get more parasitic loss from those parts, and you'd start to notice it the most in the highway/higher speed areas first. As for other ideas, I'd think that anything you mentioned would cause more than just a reduced acceleration, I think you'd see that across the board and not just at highway speed. I guess it could be your MAFS possibly, though you'd have other problems if it were that I'd think.
Mine sux anyway...I need a new one. I just don't have the $$$ right now and Ford can't find anything wrong with it per se. and of course, it's not adjustable because its freakin' hydrolic! grrr

yeah mine does all kinds of weird things, like if you have the clutch in, and you downshift while coasting with the clutch in, say perhaps in preperation for the slower speed, I get this higher pitched ringing sound like the little teeth just rubbing on each other, not to mention, the other bazillion moans and groans that thing makes. Hopefully I'm going to have some synthetic gear lube in there soon enough, perhaps that is going to take care of some of my problems, but I still get the inkling that something just isn't "right" about the tranny/clutch combo.
It might have something to do with the MAFS. The cars ecu is basing its intake information on that, so if it is dirty and reading incorrect flow or temp. the car could be compensating for that.

my 00 had the problem and was an easy fix (ok, not real easy). Check the fitting on the bottom of the egr valve (exhaust tube). mine was not even connected. have to remove the airbox to get a wrench in there

Sorry babe - I gotcha now...
Found it in MFF - I used a little alcohol with a cotton swab...gently...oh so VERY gently with pleanty of light to view.
I will warn you, it is a VERY tight spot to get the front and back of the wires, so seriously...be sure you're comfortable that you have a steady hand and a VERY light touch.
It wasn't too dirty, but we'll see what I get from it, if anything.

Gennerally when a car "bogs" on acceleration it is a sign of too much fuel. It is a run rich problem. This can be caused by a dirty TB or a malfunctioning component such as the MAF ( although the MAF usually causes a lean condition.) I would start by cleaning the TB. 3M makes a great product for this. Also you mentioned Alcohol for cleaning the MAF rods. How did you apply it? I hope with a spray. Touching the rods can knock them out of calibration. And by the way the best product for cleaning the MAF is CRC lectra-Motive electric parts cleaner. If you can't find it try Radio Shack and get a non lubricating tuner cleaner, which is used for volume switches etc. You have to use a product that leaves no residue at all. Just an after thought...it could be a clogged injector. It will back up the flow and then "let loose" Hope this helps.
I did not spray them...I was very gentle and used very little alcohol. I was certain not to move them or apply any pressure (used in context here for such a small part) and actually barely grazed the rods with the ends of the cotton fibers...not even the actual swab itself. I was lucky to be able to utilize a lighted, table mounted magnifying glass so my view of the parts were excellent. My fear was just that, to knock it out of calibration or worse, disconnect, or break something off. I am not in any situation to be able to afford a $130+ part and I'd be pissed at myself!
Nothing broke and actually, my car is working perfectly now! I couldn't be happier with the response and my milage is back to it's normal average.
Oh, fyi - I also changed my air filter (my K&N wasn't filty, but had 20k on it).

If you can answer that, I'll let you know what you need to do to get that thing back up to par.
1 - no modification as of now - just the airbox resonator removed....had been married to an assh*le who didn't like me to spend money on the car.
2 - bogging - push the gas, sluggish...not responding. I've had my DPFE replaced in the past...with that I had bucking and surging...get this...no codes were thrown but it was bad and was replaced under warranty last fall.
Thanks for your reply though...I appreciate any information offered, as do all here with questions. She's running right up to where she was before...responding to me like an extention of me. very happy I am!

nope...I did not discard the K&N - I'm a pretty savvy car chick if you can imagine.
As for why I'm not using an Amsoil filter - they do not make them yet...they are currently on a campaign to really give K&N a run for their money by developing and distributing rechargable, dual stage, foam air filters. I'm just waiting for them to become avail. as I have a stock drop in and as I said...they don't make them yet.
All of my lubricants, including my coolant and my PS fluid are or are in the process of being changed out. I use an Amsoil filter as well. Of course I would use my products if I'm touting them as a dealer. I'm thrilled with everything I've used so far.

I use Amsoil oil, but use Hasting oil filters. Hasting makes Amsoil oil filters and I can buy them cheaper then Amsoil. I am using 0-30 oil all year long with GREAT results. I have over 82 K miles on my 01/ZX3 I am planning on changing the timing belt and tensioner and water pump this summer. I did a visual on the condition of the upper drive train, and if I add vegetables and vinegar I could eat off it. ( But I prefer olive oil on my salad.)
I can tell you another story. My daughter had a 93 Chevy Geo Prizm ( a Toyota Corolla clone ) that used Amsoil 5w-30 for it's lifetime. Changed every 5K to 6K miles. She sold it to a friend over a year ago with 155K miles on it. It now has close to 200K miles. Runs great, engine clean as a whistle. Burns no oil in 5/6K oil change intervals and has never had the head off for any reason.
I'm actually due for my oil change and doing a full engine flush and switching to the Series 2000 - 1year change intervals.
I don't pay much more for the Amsoil filters, so it does not bother me one way or another, but since my car is a rolling billboard...it helps when ppl. look it over up and under to have everything labeled AMSoil
