I want to modify my 2002 ZX5 but I need input from some seasoned veterans before I start. So far, this is what I’ve come up with:
K&N air filter from eBay, 1-2 HP, $25
OBX header from eBay, 4-6 HP, $150
Focus Central hi-flo cat from Focus Central, 3-4 HP, $260
Tru-Bendz cat-back with Magnaflow and resonator from Tru-Bendz, 3-5 HP, $310
Firepower Ignition with Screamin’ Demon coil pack and Livewires spark plug wires from Performance Distributors, 3-5 HP, $155
Focus Central 65mm throttle body from Focus Central, 3-4 HP, $230
Intake manifold off of a 2000 Focus from Focus Salvage, 3-4 HP, $175
JRSC+BBK Supercharger from Focus Central, 60 HP, $2600
Fidanza flywheel from Group Buy Center, 4-6 HP, $355
Ford Racing adjustable cams from Ford Racing x 2, 7-10 HP, $490
Ford Racing adjustable camshaft gears from Ford Racing x 2, 7-10 HP, $330
Ford Racing cylinder head from Wake Performance Automotive, 7-10 HP,$875
TOTAL $5955.00
I may just do #s 1-7 until I graduate from college in 2007. I’m not getting an UDP or a CAI because I’d just have to take them off when I got the JRSC+BBK (you can’t use an UDP with it and it comes with an SVT intake and snorkel). These are my questions right now:
The stock ECU gets reprogrammed when you get a JRSC+BBK. Can it also be programmed to accommodate a head package, flywheel, and LSD, or would I need to get a chip, like the Diablo or SCT?
Is there anything I’ve left off the list that I’ll need, like maybe a better radiator and lower thermostat?
Do my HP estimates look reasonable? If I just do items 1-7, can I expect about 120 HP and 120 ft pounds of torque AT THE WHEELS?
Any help in planning this would be much appreciated.
1-7 wont yield 120 Hp at the wheels. Heck you wont honestly notice much difference except a slight increase in get up and go. Honestly save up for forced induction. 1-7 are useless unless you get a ECU chip because your cars ECU will just comepnsate for the best gas mileage ANYWAY. Ive done 1-7 and Well I didn't get anything like I thought. I guess I had a lack of knowledge when I bought all this. But forced induction is the way to go for a noticeable priceworthy change. If your eager to spend.....Just go turbo. Or supercharger......I prefer turbo but hey thats me. Ill stop

FI is the way to go if you really want power, but it is very expensive. If you truly plan to do it in a year, then I would just save up and wait. If not, go with an intake, exhaust, chip, UDP....basically the bolt on stuff. You'll be happy with it...at least I was.
I was actually going to say the same as these fellas above.
The 'estimated' hp gains you are quoting here really aren't going to come to fruition. If you're willing to spend that kind of money I would do FI or shoot for the SC.
Best of luck

--WOT switch - only allows you to spray while at full throttle, also can be used to make a fully automated system
--Fuel pressure and air fuel ratio gauges - keep tabs on the important stuff
--RPM "window" switch- only allows you to use the nitrous during set RPMs (i.e. from 4000-6500 RPM), also can be used to make your system fully automated
--Saftey shutoff switch - deactivates the entire system at once to avoid accidental use, get the kind with the flip/cover
