It is possible but you would need a donor car.

You need:
Obviously motor
Tranny
Computer
engine bay Wire Harness
Maybe a few other things

Might look for a 2.3L Donor car and do a 2.3L Swap. Night and day from a 2.0L Zetec.

Oh ya.... and

;wel

IMHO I would just sell your SPI and go find a nice Zetec Sedan.

They are out there and I think the cost and hassle will be much less for you.

That's just my ;2cents

Finding a Zetec sedan would be much easier. In 04 some of the ZTS's had the 2.3L in it.

and FYI all focus parts (to a point) will fit all Focuses. The SE S and ZTS are just trim level denotions. and as you know the SE comes in SPI and Zetec form with the majority of SE having Zetecs in them. Most S models have the SPI and all ZTS have the Zetec. The frames and front end are all exactly the same an all Focuses (sedan, wagon, ZX3/5, SVT). The rears are a little differant in length only, components are the same though.

I agree with Chelly & FX3. It can be done, but it's a real big & real expensive job. New engine, new tranny, new computer, etc, etc. And there's labor to think about too.

yah it probally would be better to buy a different focus. lol, but see the only reason i have no real big problem droppin money on this car is cause the girl that sold it to me, she said something was wrong with the tranny, so i was like alright i'll buy it, i have friends that work on cars.. so she sold it to me for a $1,000.   and so i took it to a buddy of mines to check it out.  the spark plugs wern't gap'd! they were so coroted we bought new plugs and the car started workin fine! : ) so money into this car, is not a problem : ) lol

If it were me, I'd clean up the car real good, sell it, and buy what I wanted. My 1st car was a '52 Merc. It was an atx. A friend & I converted it to a mtx in 2 days in my back yard. Ya just can't do that anymore with modern cars. It's not that easy.;quesI know you're not thinking about changing the tranny necessarily, but you get the idea. You'll be talking about a new computer, maybe a new exhaust/cat, new wiring harness, new motor, maybe a new clutch or bell housing, possible different motor mounts, throttle linkage, maybe radiator connections, possible new alternator, etc., etc. It just goes on and on and on.

You got me thinking...

$1000...... You probably already got the car paid off so no payments. If you really want to do a project than get a car you want to build up, either another focus or something else you can get for short or fairly short money and use this focus as your daily driver untill you project is done. Everyone knows you never get the time to work on the car you are driving daily so take this opertunity to build somthing without loosing a set of wheels.

Or just sell it for 2-3 grand(If not more, not sure what it's worth) and buy a focus (or whatever) with a larger motor. Don't trade it cause you'll get raped by the dealer.

But if you wanna go ahead with the swap I still say you find a wrecked 03 or 04 ZX3 with the 2.3L or an 04 ZTS (sedan) with the 2.3L or an 05+ Focus (sad to say but even the 05 2.0L Duratec is better than the Zetec 2.0L). And FYI the 2.3L Duratec (03+) can be punched out to a 2.5L and the 2.0L Duratec (05+) can be punched out to a 2.2L. Also the 03-04 2.3L have a differant gearing the MTX75 tranny that gives it quite a bit-o-pep. In 05 they put the normal MTX75 gearing back into it.

you need engine, trans if you want a manual (MTX-75) plus shift cables, shift mount and shifter (all for manual) Wiring harness and a secondary one if you are using an auto trans, alternator, PS pressure line, AC compressor bracket, Engine mount, Axle shafts (if using an MTX-75), Throttle cable, lower hose, ECU, .................... I think thats it.
