My supar-focus has recently developed a nasty ticking noise. its always there. ticks about 5 times a second. doesnt seem to get any faster w/ higher engine revs. Its been suggested that since i added my race header, everything just got louder and it's just my valves opening and closing, but i need a second opinion. I'd take it to ford, but i fear they'll harass me for headers/intake/bodykit. any suggestions?

dunno either. have a similar problem with my 00. ticking is loud enough to be heard with the hood closed.did isolate it as being in the head and either valve noise or injectors. the ford garage is going to keep it overnight to check when it's cold since that seems to be when it's most (ok, very) prominent. they have already requested info from ford to see if it's a known problem and what the fix is so i should find out later in the week and can pass on anything i find out

I do know that most foci have a "tick" to them.  I also know some can be louder than others.

I have read/heard that there is an issue with the clutch that has some effect on a ticking noise commonly heard.  Does this tick go away when you engage the clutch?

I am not sure if this would be your problem, but how about your oil? gas? changed either lately? in changing gas, I mean, do you have a regular place you fuel up and decided to go somewhere new?

Ya , I have this ticking noise in my foci. I had it in my first one too, its definatly a common problem that I hear most focus owners talk about.

I have a ticking too. I was always told it was the fuel injectors pulsing, and not the valves or any engine wear.

The infamous ticking is from the injectors.. Its very commen with ALL foci. Nothing to worry about. Now if you have some wack ticking where you can hear it increase with reving and what not then you have problems. But the normal tick, tick, tick at idle is normal.

Have you tried running a can of injector cleaner through the system? It helped quiet down mine. Just a suggestion. :?

there is some obnoxious valve tick on the focus, but if you never noticed it before I can't see why it would get more dominant.  Do you have a flywheel? I heard one of those yesterday and that frickin' thing is NOISY!

It's your injectors.  I had the same problem and i just replace my injectors and the noise is gone.  I have another problem that I can't find no answers to.  My voltage in my car goes up and down constantly from 13.5 volts all the way up to 16 volts.  I seem to loose HP when It's low. I tested my car on the star machine at my local dealer but nothing.

This is interesting, however I'm not certain about a 'fog relay box'?  do you happen to have a pic of this?

I do know that most SVT's of those early years had recalls and TSB's at least on the clutch.  Jonny would know better as I have the '04 PZEV 2.3 now.
