Yeah, I guess they are. I guess I was trying to imply that if they could tell the air was denser and trigger the PCM to switch to a different mode that was programmed for the increase in air density then maybe mileage wouldnt take such a hit.
Kinda like E85. Because the EPA stated, several years ago, that any vehicle that was e85 capable had to maintain emmissions at the same level as regular gas, that the manufactures dont tune for e85. I personally believe that if the PCM could switch modes or programming when E85 was being run that fuel mileage would be on par with regular gas. Until then E85 will probably continue to result in reduced mileage which in effect negates its lower cost.
