Im going to be using the ford racing head which raises CR to 11:1, hogs out the ports, and enlarges the valves. The head comes with the upgraded valvesprings and valvetrain pre assembled. The tappets are missing and so are the cams. Im trying to decide what cams to use with this. Ive been looking at the 262s (FR2s). I know the stage 2 grinds move the power up the chain a bit but I think the increased compression and hot head will make enough lower end grunt to offset the shift. On the other hand, a stage 1 grind might plant the power right where I like it, early. The larger valves in the FR head will make the effective lift of any camshaft larger so thats something to take into consideration. Stage 2s might be a stage 2 and a half.

any ideas?

In the little bit of research i have done stage 2 FR's seem to be the way to go. As opposed to other brands stage 2's the FR's keep some of (if not most of) the low end grunt where the others lose the low end.

I have also heard that if you ever want to go FI that you shouldn't use anything more than stage 1. but where you bumping the compression I don't think your thinking of going FI.

I say go for the stage 2's. If I was in the market I'd say buy them and if you didn't like em I'd take them off your hands. But I'm pretty far away from doing seroius motor mods right now.

And I've also found out that gettign the FR head is also the way to go because its a new cast piece and you can't punch out a stock head to what the FR one is at. Someone could have fibbed to me though.

I dont know about the manufacturing process of th eFR head but its certainly more economical to buy it than to try and convert the stock head. You can get the head shaved for under 50 bucks but to work the head over with larger valves, new hardware and seals, 3 angle valve job you are looking at prices into the 700s. Plus, you still have to find a place that will flowbench it and work out the ports for you. Thats VERY expensive.

no, the motor will not be blown, instead it will be squeezed. Im using direct shot nitrous jets mounted in the runners, right under the fuel injectors. (90* shark nozzles) the kit will be complete with fuel pressure safety switch and a 2 stage progressive shot controller.

I'm using the stock head...sort of. It's been breathed on by a local speed shop. Ported & polished, but not milled. Stock cams, runs on regulas gas.

I think Im going to go with the FR 2s. The crane 2's have a longer intake duration and after installing and degree-ing Derricks, the idle is very low (around 600) and it sounds like a dragster staging. Its not as bad some BMW cams Ive put in but I think its more than I want. Im afraid if I go more radical than 232 on the FR head, it will have a hard time in traffic.
