TODAY I INSTALLED A CONE FILTER ONTO MY 01' ZTS SEDAN, MY QUESTION IS... ISN'T THE FACTORY ECU A "LEARNING ECU"? I READ THAT SOMEWHERE, MY PROBLEM IS THAT WHEN I START THE CAR IT IDLES A LITTLE ROUGH,(HESITATES) LIKE A MISS, THE NEXT PROBLEM IS WHEN I FLOGG THE ACCELERATOR IT MISSES ONCE OR TWICE. WILL THIS CLEAR UP IN TIME OR SHOULD I REPLACE THE FACTORY AIRBOX? ANY INPUT WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED!:driv

I know this is a dumb question, but you left the MAF sensor alone right?

2nd dumb question: was it a "wet" (oiled) or "dry" (unoiled) filter? If it was oiled, you may have clogged the MAF. There's a how-to somewhere around here about MAF cleaning. Just need to do a search for it.

3rd dumb question: What did you do for the PCV? Your engine will not (ever) run right if the PCV is closed off, and won't run quite right (at least not at first) if you just put a breather filter on it. Although that is acceptable. The best method would be to run a tube to your new filter and somehow attatch the PCV to it. Based on your diagnosis, this seems like it may be the problem.

4th dumb question: Did you reset the computer? Disconnect your battery and hold down the brake pedal for 20 seconds, the re-connect the battery. That should do it.

But to answer your main question, yes, the Zetec's computer will "learn" what is going on and adjust. Hope this helps!

I DISCONNECTED THE BATTERY CABLE BUT DIDNT ENGAGE THE BRAKE PEDAL! I'LL NOW GO AND DO THE CABLE AND BRAKE PEDAL AGAIN! THANKS AGAIN FOR THE INPUT!

today i disconnected the negative cable and applied the brake like you said, right on the money!! drove it in town, flogged it on the interstate, DAMN!! what a difference! thanks for the input! i cant get over the sound the intake makes! from the inside i can hear the intake and exhaust! i have a full magnaflow 2.25 exhaust with the factory catyletic converter, how much of a difference would it make if i installed a FC hi-flo cat with a 2.25 flex pipe? thanks again all for the input!

Honestly you won't see much, because you don't have any internal mods. Your best bet, for a next mod, would be an underdrive pulley. Easy 5whp there, and it's relatively cheap.

Or, if you want a little more oomph... some nitrous.

But nitrous would warrant a header, cat and flex.

OR... maybe get the head shaved to raise compression.

How much do you want to spend, and how fast do you want to go?
