Ok my 00 sony edition focus is acting a fool. I do not drive it on a daily basis, but now that is nice out I plan on driving it more, so I got it out of the garage and am running a service and tune up. Well driving it I had an issue. It started flipping out, at first it felt like in 2nd gear it was not getting full power, well i thought it was due to fuel injectors needed cleaned, so i ran stp fuel system cleaner through a full tank right now. it is seeming to help, but the other issue is it randomly acts like it is shutting off while driving down the road, all electronics flutter (no better way to put it), a lot of the electronics reset and the cluster goes ape s*#@, there has been one occasion were it actually shutdown for a minute and i had to restart. I thought maybe the battery cable was loose but that is not the case. I do hear a small tick when the engine is running and idle. has anyone had this problem or any ideas? (another side note the check engine light turns on and off randomly)

ok, established that the ground cable is loose, now i have heard that the fuel filter could cause sputtering, just need to know about were the filter is... and if there could be something else.

Fuel filter is under the car just in front of the gas tank. It's the typical canister style.

00 also has a recall on the fuel pump. Take you VIN to the dealership and have them check to see if the recall was done. If you bought it new and never did it than you already know.

The slight tick is probably the injector pulsing you hear. The Zetec's injectors are a bit noisy.

There is what the call "the big 3" in wiring for the car. Basically add 4 or 6 gauge wires to compliment the stock ones.
1 - Batt to ground
2 - Engine ground to chasis ground
3 - Battery + to Altinator (or is it starter?)

Hope some of this helps.
