So.. what if you don't live in a state with emmisions test? I don't and Im going to cut that cat out! I learned from my brother who is almost completed his technicion training from the UTI NASCAR Tech school that most 4 bangers today run such low emissions they don't really need a cat!  Focus Fanatic did say however that the cat is a fairly high flow cat and that its the stock headers that cut the Zetec's HP with lack of exhaust scavenging and unnatural flow.  But since Im changing the cams and cam gears Im left with the delima of Race Header or Shorty Headers! I've already got the high-flow flex back system. And besides I've never heard of cops pulling you over and asking to see your cat! :shock: Atleast here in SC its no big deal!

Obviously you didn't read the part where the focus produces such low emissions it doesn't even have to have a cat on it.  The cat is Federaly mandated but most 4 cylinders today don't put out enough hydrocarbins to register on a gas machine.  I've seen it with my own eyes!  But if you want to continue on letting Big Brother feed you lies.. go right ahead!  Oh and by the way they don't have cats on this side of the world! and you breath that air too!  :pop

Yes, I did read it. It puts out even lower emissions with the cat.

Lower = better.

Every little bit helps. I'm not suggesting anyone become a tree hugger, or completely do away with their life style. Maybe just recycle a can or plastic bag once in a while, or maybe make a supreme sacrifice of .02 sec in the 1/4 mile & leave the cat on their car. It is the law, after all.

Personally I would go with a shorty and a universal high flow cat mounted under the car like the SVT.

Also Cal has the strictest emission testing and the air is better since this law was passed.

running cat free is totally not legal....at least here in ca....:(.....even certain high flow cat's here in ca will not pass smog....if you would like to know what aftermarket parts will and will not pass smog take a look at this.....

http://www.arb.ca.gov/msprog/aftermkt/devices/amquery.php

accorning to the state of ca it will tell you what parts are legal and non-legal for your vehicle....

illegal in maine, and maybe I'm wrong but have you ever smelled a focus without the cat, it may not make a huge difference in emmisions, but breaking down those sulfur dioxides sure makes it smell at least tolerable. Ass eggs here we come.
